I would boo Hossa simply because he disa-****ing-peared in the playoffs in 2009. Had he been on top of his game the Wings would have won the cup twice. Instead he lollygagged about in the playoffs and cost the Wings and himself a championship.

You say that like our section of the board isn't guilty of that constantly.

Look I understand that you boo Chelli, what I can't understand is that if you hate him that much why did you have a sell out crowd and if your only intent was to embarrass the man and his family (Who have done nothing to you) it makes you look ridiculous and bitter. His parents are life long Chicagoans and you stripped them of a night they should have been able to be proud of.

Maybe I just can't be that bitter and hateful
Well for starters the building was full because it's always full now, regardless of who is being honored. But seriously, either we watched different ceremonies or else you're blowing this waaaaaay out of proportion.

This was what I watched...

You're making it sound like people were throwing things at his parents, punching members of his family in the face, and making him stop half way through his speech so he could be escorted by police to keep from getting assaulted. The guy got some boos from a minority of the fans while he was talking about his time here and then cracked a joke and everybody cheered. On the broadcast I watched (same as above) it sounded like he was getting cheered the majority of the time anyway. I really don't see this huge disgraceful act that Wings fans are harping on. I mean based on the huge cheer after he said "Let's let bygones be bygones" it sounded like they were just busting his balls a bit.

Wing fans boo'd Sergei Fedorov everytime he came back to play in Detroit

Many dont want his # retired and downgrade his role with there cup teams.

And yet they attack us for treating "The Traitor" the same way?

You people really need to learn a few things before you start your whining like old betties.

Chelios never wanted to leave Chicago but was being forced off of the ice and into an executive spot on account of those in charge (Pully) thought he had nothing left in the tank. Wirtz did him a favor by taking a lowball offer on account of the Wings had a decent chance at winning a Cup, thinking it was going to be Cheli's swan song which it obviously wasnt. When the league heard Chelios was on the market, there were two better offers out there, but Wirtz wanted Chelios to win a Cup again. No "forced trade" drivel, none of that.

Bill Wirtz loved Chris Chelios, and did what was best for him. If you have no clue, please, dont bother trying to make things up, it doesnt work that way and you look foolish in the process. Chelios is the greatest defenseman this franchise has ever seen, and to an extent it was kind of classless all of the profanities thrown at Chelios while his children were out there on the ice celebrating a moment with him.

Just that people are always calling other fans and fanbases classless then say totally classless **** themselves a week later. I don't want to search for it, but every group on this board is in love with that word, even though they don't want to believe they are guilty of doing it. I can understand if you haven't been around all that long to notice it. It's just a long standing trend.

You realize that he was playing through an injury, right?

You know, the shoulder that he had to get surgery on and missed the first two months of the season.

From Chelios own mouth. Research your debates next time.

Wait, a picture of the 75th anniversary team of which Chelios was a part of in a pre game ceremony honoring such before a game pitting the Hawks against the Red Wings? A team that Chelios was a member of? Are you really trying to use that as some sort of ammo to this whole "hes a traitor" drivel? Because he was suited up and about to play in 10 minutes?

Seriously, if you dont know what you are talking about, its best to just scroll and read.

I wasn't a huge Hawks fan when Chelios was here, but I understood how good he was and what he meant to the team. Personally I wouldn't boo a former great of my team unless they did something to deserve it. The only guy I can think of that left Chicago and deserved to be booed was Magglio Ordonez and how he handled his last season here. Yet I didn't boo him anyway. If a guy was a great on your team even if he goes to a rival, treat him that way. Sticking with the Sox as an example, Thome and Crede got standing ovations and they went to the Twins, Thomas was given 2 standing ovations his first game back with Oakland and then was booed as a joke after he hit 2 home runs in the game.

Sure it wasn't cool that Chelios wore his Red Wings jersey in the 75th anniversary photo, but he was playing for them at the time, it's not like he was retired and came out wearing a Wings jersey. If it was such a big deal why didn't they not allow him in the photo? It didn't seem like any of the guys in the picture cared, they probably gave him crap, but jokingly.

And for the guy who said he hasn't seen the people on this board be classless, I saw one guy yesterday or the day before say the only way there should be cheering with Chelios on the ice is if someone throws something at his head. Get over it, he left 11 years ago, he's going to be a hall of famer, and he played his best years when he was on the Hawks. I know I would want a great for my team to get a shot to win the Championship, although I would and did root against him as a Wing, but he got 2 rings, and stayed with an organization and fan base that treated him well. His family is in Detroit now and his sons are at MSU, why wouldn't he want to stay there instead of coming back to Chicago, if he was even offered a job? He probably gets to see his sons play hockey a lot being so close. As a Hawks fan, I don't see anything wrong with Chelios, and if I had been there last night would have cheered a former Hawks great.

I forgot to mention, people who are comparing Hawks fans and Red Wings fans saying well they were classless too, we shouldn't strive to be classless and say it's ok because they were too. We should strive to be better than them, be the best fan base possible and support the team now, and anyone, especially great players, who were on the team beforehand.

I would add Jose Paniagua but he was boo'd while a member of White Sox (Not sure he ever got a job in MLB after that)

He deserved the boo's for the embarrassing display with Sox in 2003. I was there when he did that #### it was bush league antics and I feel that helped orchestrate the collapse of 03 and the Twins revival that year

Someone should start a poll: What was more disgusting, that half Blackhawk, half Red Wing jersey worn by Chelios' mom, or her face? Not sure which one I would vote for.

Chelios deserves every boo and insult he gets.

You are a disgusting little man. You throw insults around like your S**T don't stink, you are the reason people outside of chicago hate the place.

I don't think I would call Paniagua a former Sox great, or hell even much of a player. Didn't he only pitch in 1 game and then was released? I forgot all about him. Another one you could mention then would be Albert Belle, but he was hated prior to joining the Sox.

Why don't you cry about it on the Red Wings board with the rest of that whiny fan base.
