Sabres Deadline Assets

What will your team offer for the below players?

UFA in summer 2011

Tim Connolly
Steve Montador
Rob Niedermayer
Mike Grier (NMC)
Cody McCormick
Craig Rivet

Also very likely available

Shaone Morrisonn (One more season at $2.075)
Nathan Gerbe (RFA after this season)
Jochen Hecht (One more year at $3.0 real salary, $3.525 cap hit)

I just don't think they're looking to move Stafford or Pominville right now, so we'll leave them out for now.

Edit: Buffalo would be looking for picks, prospects and/or very young players.

Jokinen, Glencross, and Sarich for Connolly, and Hecht. Maybe add in a cheap UFA for Glencross.

LOLOL

Tell me how this is possibly good for the Sabres. We want young pieces moving guys, not those 3 clowns. 2 31 year olds on bad contracts past this year and Glencross, who has no value compared to the prospects or picks we can get for Connolly and Hecht. Just awful.

I wish we could just lend Connolly, Pominville, Hecht, Lalime, Rivet, and about 90% of our current team to Europe this year. They are all ****ing pathetic.

Wouldn't be suprised to see Connolly end up in Washington. They're going to be looking for a #2 centre and it's unlikely they are willing to fork up enough assets for Brad Richards (especially because resigning him would prevent them from resigning Semin).

I figure Washington may have passed NYR as the most likely destination for Connolly if Regier keeps him in the EC. The only problem is that the Caps don't have their 2nd round pick this season--ironically, it belongs to the Rangers--and that is likely going to be the asking price for Connolly.

Montador is tailor-made for the Hawks, and Chicago has three 2nd's. Monty is cheap, contract-wise, which is something the Hawks will value. I see that as a likely destination for Monty.

As for the other expiring players--Rivet, Nieds, Grier--I would take pretty much anything. I'd trade Nieds and Grier for a 4th or 5th, and would even take "future considerations" for Rivet.

I still think the Sabres find a way to compete for a playoff spot. But people who watch that team night in and night out probably know more than I do.

They might. But more often than not, they play with no passion/chemistry/heart/drive.

Glencross is a guy I'd love to see in a Sabres jersey. If you wanted Connolly and I was GM, I'd do Glencross and a pick. Jokinen is garbage (and I'm not sure why his play has declined so much since he left Florida; makes no sense since he had no linemates in Florida and now he's surrounded with more talent).

I think the value would be about right if it was:

Pominville and Connolly

for

Bourque and Glencross

However Calgary would have to take on some salary for that to happen.

The team has no heart or balls. If you watch them you'll notice that most of them just don't give a **** anymore. They aren't making the playoffs this year, guaranteed.

Considering Pegula has been unhappy with a lot of what the current regime has done? I wonder if any moves will be allowed before he takes over the team.

Its not a matter of Pegula being unhappy. The price has been set and the players currently under contract are listed as part of the assets in that price. You won't see any player movement until the sale is complete.

I would love to see Montador in Pittsburgh or Rivet if we have the room.

You probably don't want Rivet. He has great heart and leadership, but he can't play anymore. He's just too slow. Perhaps on a really depleted D-Core he can be the number 6 guy, but for most teams he's a number 7. I still have love for him, though.

I see. I did wonder a little. I just know he's tough as nails and it would only be as the 6th man. Probably not worth it if he's too slow.

If you pair him up with a fleet-footed 2-way guy, he might be all right. As long as you tell him never to cross his own blueline, at least.

Can't see Calgary wanting any part of that, but who knows what Sutter will get up to.

Has an NMC in place. No reason for him to waive it, he planned on finishing out the season in Buffalo anyways I am sure.

He has a NMC. I wonder, though, if he'd be willing to waive it to go to a playoff team if the Sabres are out of it at the deadline. He'll be 36 in a few weeks, and he's not getting any younger. I'd have to think that he'd be willing to go a winner if Buffalo is selling.

I think Buffalo would ask for a 4th rounder for him. He's a solid veteran presence that won't hurt you in the bottom-6.

If Washington does want a 2nd line center, how about Connolly for Perreault and Fehr?
