Bullpen is key in the playoffs, we need another reliever IMO.

Relievers are almost always a crapshoot. I would definitely like to sign one more guy, but other than that you need to see how it plays out and go from there. Plenty of time before the playoffs start.

I would like to add a few players that could at least have the chance at succeeding. Like a Contraras type.

And can we please just send Baez to AAA??

No reason to. We don't know who 2011 Baez will be. Seriously, that's how much bullpen guys can fluctuate that I'm willing to give Dannys Baez another try.

As it stands now, we have Lidge, Madson, Bastardo, Baez, Contreras. Then the options become Herndon, Mathieson, Zagurski, and whichever of Kendrick/Worley isn't starting assuming Blanton is moved. Certainly would be nice to have one more guy in the mix who has major-league success.

I wasn't being fully serious, I hope he can pitch better this year.

But I would like to add one low risk/high reward type player like Contreras to put out there.

Wow, I'm retarded. I thought his deal was already signed, sealed, and delivered. Didn't even read the last page, ha.

We didn't get him. Not sure what happened, but he never signed.

Yeah, I see. My bad.

I would have loved to get a guy like Scott Downs but it's too bad that he's already in Anaheim.

You ever see Baez's career numbers? It's been a steady decline for almost a decade. No fluctuation involved. It kind of defies all bullpen logic.

He pissed away a lot of money when he could no longer hack it as a closer. The guy was an all-star one year.

Huh? He's only pitched in MLB for a decade. He had a career year in 2005, good years in 2001, 2003, 2004, and acceptable years in 2002, 2006, and 2009. Bad years in 2007 and 2010. That seems like standard bullpen fare to me.

K/9 doesn't lie for relievers. It's dropped every year he's pitched except one. He worked around it for a time, but every one of his stats has been in decline since 2005 save for an upward blip in '09. He's not bouncing back.

There aren't too many guys left but I wouldn't mind Brian Fuentes or Arthur Rhodes if they could get them cheap.

Relievers are cashing in so far this offseason, I wouldn't count on those guys cheap unless Rhodes was only shooting for a ring before retiring or something.

I'd pass on Arthur Rhodes. We already have one guy in Contreras pushing 40, we don't need someone older than him in the bullpen. Fuentes I might do, but he is kind of like a Brad Lidge Jr. One night he is amazing, the next night he is walking four dudes and giving up a grand slam. Maybe a change of scenery will do him some good. Also I don't know if he would sign somewhere to not be a closer.

Grant Balfour is a guy I would like to see in Philly. He is a hard throwing lefty that would be a nice late inning complement to Madson that could be brought in to get out some lefties.

Other guys I'd like to see: Dotel (too expensive maybe?), Dan Wheeler, Kevin Gregg, Kyle Farnsworth, Todd Coffey, Mike MacDougal, Chad Qualls. Not sure what kind of money these guys would be looking for, but if any one of them were affordable I would like to see the Phillies nab one of them. Grant Balfour would be my number 1 pick out of these guys.

Why the H didn't we trade for Greinke?

as for the relievers, I say we talk Billy Wagner out of retirement and bust Ugi Urbina out of prison

Why wouldn't a good reliever want to come here for a little less money, 2 out of the 5 you don't even have to wake up.

I wanted to trade for Greinke pre-Cliff Lee, but are you suggesting that you would rather clean out what little is left in our farm system to go get a guy who had a 4.17 ERA last season and has a red flag as a head case instead of signing Philadelphia's prodigal son?

I doubt we get any good relievers, but whatever. Let's see how things go to start the season.

I'd love if Blanton could land us a decent outfielder or reliever though.

Wagner is an old man. He had a good year last season, but I wouldn't trust any pitcher who is 40 years old and the key to their game is throwing the ball as hard as they can. If he came out of retirement to play I would only want him as an "overflow" type player. I wouldn't want to depend on anyone who is either too young or too old.

I think it is time this Blue Jay fan turns to the city of Philadelphia for a team to cheer for. As a die hard Flyer fan and a double die hard Roy Halladay fan......seems like a natural. Like other non Yankee/Sox fans in the AL East, without a salary cap.....there is really no point in cheering for the Blue Jays this year.
