Anderson not returning next year?

I was watching the Leafs/Trashers game and during the intermission they were discussing news around the league and guy said that Avalanche will not talk about contract extension until the end of the year. The guy also said that Anderson will probably be somewhere else next year.

I know this is Maple Laughs, but they are the hockey media of the world.

Walter is a moron, I wouldn't take anything he says seriously.

He'll be back. Even if they don't see him as "the answer", he'll still be back. There's no one else.

I'm not worried. Only way it doesn't happen is if Andy has decided to become an UFA. And then it doesn't really matter if we try to negotiate now or in June.

I don't really see any major reason why he wouldn't want to be part of this team though, unless Sherman tries to lowball him. Good things ahead for this organization.

Anderson would be stupid to give up his #1 job and that with a team that will be a cup contender really soon.

Thanks for clearing that up. I really had no clue if this guy was legit.

If Anderson does walk, Vokoun would be a prefect fit on our team. Seems the only Europeans we take are Czechs.

I think I'd prefer Bryz. We seem to do okay with Coyote hand-me-downs.

Yotes will pay the big bucks. I would be ecstatic with Bryzgalov or Vokoun, but that's not a slight to Anderson. Anderson does need to become more consistent - he hasn't been able to get into a rhythm this season due to injuries, and he had a terrible 2nd half last season.

Alot of teams and players leave contract talks until after the season. For a few reasons... either so the player isn't distracted from his play, or the team can evaluate exactly what the player will bring. I'm not sure how much Anderson is worth at this moment and how much that will change. But it'd be nice to see if he can keep up with being a number one goalie for at least a few years. Unless Sherman knows for sure that he'll have a legit number one goalie next year I don't think he'd write off Anderson this early. The Toronto guys are probably just trying to stir up stories. Sports media is a joke.

I would take Bryz OR Vokoun over Andy, but this team is committed to him IMO, and vice versa.

I say he gets 2-3 years at 3.5 M before hitting the open market.

I don't see what would cause someone to speculate that Anderson wouldn't re-sign, either from his end or the team's. He's got a good thing going in Colorado, and they've got a good thing going in him and can afford to be competitive in contract talks.

The only way I see Anderson going elsewhere is if he completely falls apart and the Avs get the inside track on Vokoun. But that's not something you speculate on. It is pure fantasy.

Bryzgalov will likely be re-signed. And given that he's almost 35 and will likely be paid a truck load—two no-no's with current management—Vokoun isn't a realistic option.

That's why they're the Maple Leafs.

The Colorado Avalanche need Craig Anderson, and Craig Anderson needs the Colorado Avalanche.

The main reason Andy left Florida was to become a number one goaltender. In his interview after leaving Florida he said he wanted to go somewhere where he could compete for a number one position. He is un-doubtedly our number one guy, he doesn't want to go anywhere.

As for the Avs side of things, I don't see them signing another goalie this off season. We saw the lack of off-season work this past summer, expect more of the same this time around as well.

He actually had a horrible 3/4ths. He was playing well before the olympics however after, he just faltered. He did play great in the playoffs however.

How is Anderson committed to this team after the season?

I'd actually like Vokoun more. Guy's a stud. However, as you've pointed out, not a viable option unless both Andy/Bryz are out.

Quite sure he doesn't need the Avs anymore. There are many teams looking for a no. 1.

Chicago
San Jose
TBL
NYI
PHI
possibly Toronto
OTT
possibly NJ

I am sure he'll resign but he won't give the team discounts or etc.

If it was a choice, I'd let him go for Bryz.

The only thing that makes me worry is that the Avs tied up Stastny in November of the season he needed to be extended. It's really a stupid comparison - different positions, years, situations, etc.... but it does make me somewhat alarmed.

I never really said he was.

BUT,

He has been big part of this team after making a huge commitment to come to the city and be the starter for this team. He won't just up and leave just because a team might offer him a little more money (IMO). They gave him his first chance to be a starter in the NHL and I'm sure that will mean something to him when it comes to deciding whether or not to re-sign.

Different GMs.

FG - handed contracts out like candy bars
Shermantaro - he doesn't overpay

I can buy that. He doesn't strike me as the type to chase the pretty penny unlike Theo.

Yep. I agree with this too. I am sure COL will be his first choice as well but I don't think he'll play here with a discount or such. I mean the guy played his whole life to play in the NHL. I am sure he wants to cash it in as best as he can.

I'd take Bryz or Vokoun over Andy as well..
but Bryz gets the slight edge over Vokoun (even though i think he is the better goaltender) because of his sense of humor and age

I'm not worried. If we don't resign Anderson its because we have a track to a better goalie. Management isn't stupid enough to try and embark on what could very well be a contending year with a tandem of budaj and Pickard.

And this information came from where?

The Avs front office isn't one to kiss and tell. I have no idea how a reporter for the Leafs would have come across this scoop.

i'd rather have Bryz, but either way he'll be back for sure.
