Regier is actually quite active at the deadline if you look at his history. Hopefully, though, he realizes he should be a seller rather than a buyer this year. In Montador and Connolly the Sabres have two assets who can net them 2nd round draft picks. Buffalo has actually been better without Connolly this season. Though losing Monty would hurt, they need the draft pick and they can pursue him on July 1 if they want him back.
He has a NMC. I wonder, though, if he'd be willing to waive it to go to a playoff team if the Sabres are out of it at the deadline. He'll be 36 in a few weeks, and he's not getting any younger. I'd have to think that he'd be willing to go a winner if Buffalo is selling.
I think Buffalo would ask for a 4th rounder for him. He's a solid veteran presence that won't hurt you in the bottom-6.
think you could work something around jody shelly+?
If the Rangers continue to play the way they are, I definitely take a flyer on Connolly...maybe Rivet too...can he still actually play defense or are his only assets at this point leadership and toughness?

Can that guy even play hockey?
I guess he'd be useful to protect all of the smurfs on our team though.

Rivet can't really play anymore, his skating is terrible.
He loses lots of one-on-one battles due to his lack of speed which lead to penalties or good scoring chances.
Being a Rangers fan, you should already be aware of how bad he is, as he was directly responsible for two of the three goals Derek Stepan scored in his first game and had another mistake that almost led to a goal for you guys too.
Have to assume that Lalime and Rivet have 'negative' value and we let them go after contracts are run out.
I would also add the Sabres do not just need picks and prospects - they will need a couple of vets and may be able to get the right guys in trade.
As bad as Rivet has been, he is going to be an asset in demand at the deadline. A right handed veteran defensemen with a ton of playoff experience is exactly what younger, playoff bound teams are going to look to add.
Will he bring much in return ? No... but a mid round pick is certainly likely. IMO
If the Sabres are out of it... which is the likely scenario... I could see a lot of our veteran UFA assets being of interest to other teams.
Connolly(2ND/3RD), Niedermayer (5TH/6TH), and Rivet(3RD/4TH) should ALL be traded at the deadline.
Grier has a no trade clause.. which hopefully he waives.
Montador is the one debatable guy, as the Sabres should be looking to extend him. But if he isn't... then trade him too.

We will have to see. In any case, I'm not too worried about getting a 5th round pick or not. Connolly is the one UFA that I think may have some value - am I crazy thinking he could be worth a late 1st or a decent prospect for the right team?
Stafford is the other guy I really think they should look at moving if they are out of it - I don't see his perceived value getting a lot higher than it is at the moment, to be honest.
And Montador - I'm not sure the Sabres have room to extend him. And I think he could be of decent value again for the right team (2nd/3rd).
Boston should do whatever they can to acquire Montador again....he was in Boston for less than half a season tho, not sure if there was some kind of falling out there. And I am aware of the cap issue(seems I have to mention this EVERYTIME I post anything).
I still think the Sabres find a way to compete for a playoff spot. But people who watch that team night in and night out probably know more than I do.
They almost always face the other teams backup goalie. As the season goes on and each point becomes more important? Buffalo will face the starters.(And struggle) This season is long since gone.
New ownership should be in place by the deadline, so shoot away... You want Roy, Vanek, Stafford... dare I say Miller? For the right price any could likely be had.
