Actually - Sota's not bad. Everyone I Know refers to you guys as "Minny". I think it's because Minnesota has 4 syllables and people are lazy and shortening it to "The Wild" just sounds weird because all the other teams have plural endings (Leafs, Caps, Habs etc). I never thought of Minny as being annoying though or derogatory but yah - I'd hate Vanny so I see your point.
No one in San Fransico calls it San Fran, they call it "the city"
No one in Orange County calls it the OC
No one from California calls it Calli (except some lazy rappers)
Everyone in SoCal calls Northen California: NoCal but the people in NoCal think it is NorCal
Be happy that some people call it Minny, there are many school kids that couldn't find it on a map. (More of a comment on the country's education than a knock on the state).
Stop doing that, I have seriously never heard ANYBODY from Minnesota use this term in my life. I think I've used it a few times here and there and it made me feel like an idiot after.
But seriously people that aren't from Minnesota.. knock it off.
Glad to see this.
The first time I saw someone write Minny it pissed me off so I'm glad to learn that folks from Minnesota don't say this.
It's actually amazing that Edmonton fans are stuck in the "Wild play trap" mode since it seems like every game the two teams play someone scores 4 goals.
Get used to it they live in the past. They think Smyl is still our captain.

I'm kind of in disbelief that this thread is still going! haha
For one, I heard "Minni or Minny" all the time when I lived in Minnesota. It doesn't bother me at all. It's not a negative. It's just a nickname... As someone else mentioned:
Philadelphia = Philly
Minnesota = Minny
Indianapolis = Indy
California = Cali
etc
as for the quoted above, I live in California & I hear "Cali" used all the time... As for the "the OC" that was a lame show on TV which no, people don't say "The OC" BUT I do hear just "OC", "SD", & "LA" all the time. It's just the idiots that put "The" in front... Pretty much every beach city is abbreviated out here too. When I lived in Huntington Beach we were "HB" Now I live in Pacific Beach & Mission Beach & they're referred to as "PB" and "MB" all the time..
Basically I'm not understanding why people care if someone says "Minni" or "Minny"?
It goes back to the orginal Twins logo with Minnie & Paul shaking hands over the river.. It's no big deal. Just embrace it much like Philly does... Places with nicknames are always cooler then places without... I say just deal with it. It's not a big deal at all... Just my opinion tho but I fail to see why anyone even cares...
ps- I also hear "SoCal" & "NorCal" or "NoCal" all the time out here...
On SportsCenter yesterday Chris McKendry and Linda Kohn (sp? on both names) referred to us as Minny pretty much exclusively. Whenever they weren't talking about Vick they'd ask how the weather was doing up in Minny.
i don't get the anger towards it either. still don't get it, i mean. hey--related: i ran into a guy who used to play with the Flames (didn't recognize/forgot the name--it was from late 80's I think he said?) and he said something about "Minny" then apologized and said "I hear you guys don't like that". told him i didn't mind, where did he hear that? he said "a hockey site"
maybe this thread? Hi flames guy--sorry i forgot your name! I suck at names--don't take it personally.
Kinda makes it look like people in minny can't have any fun
Could be more of an indication that we have nothing better to do than be upset about stupid ****
full disclosure...I use 'minny' all the time, for me to argue against its use is to tear down the very core of my existence...cause of how big of a deal it is
