The NHL has shown no reason to believe they can market anything. The Winter Classic will not be on in my house because it's another Crosby/Ovy love fest being shoved down our throats. The Rangers should have been in this year's Classic, IMO.
I still haven't quite figured out why they aren't marketing the hell out of some of the great young US players - Kane, Parise, Miller, etc. Okay, Miller is kinda scary looking, but he's got nothing on Ovechkin. If you want to get the next generation of kids involved, give them a hero they can identify with.

Please stop making sense.

The NHL cannot fathom it (sense).

you would love the AHL game then where blood from a high stick means 5 minutes

Especially after Parise and Miller's Olympic heroics. Almost everyone I know watched olympic hockey, and even the people who knew jack about the NHL sure as hell knew who Miller and Parise were after that.

EDIT: What I mean is, they're popular all over.
I see Penguins fans at every road game, and a lot of them (more than Flyer fans) and this has been the case for a long time (transplants+popular).
I also see Rangers fans at every road game, and for the same reason.
Both are very popular.

So popular, in fact, that I get PM's from Rangers and Pens fans asking me questions about how many Pens and Rangers fans are in attendance at Flyers games. And their questions are (copied and pasted) the same...
