He left the arena on crutches and Ruff called it "serious".
He'll be re-evaluated Friday.

The one thing that worries me about his injury is that it gets used as an excuse to keep Regier and more specifically Ruff around.

That's Derek Roy for you, always sticking up for his coach.

Hopefully he returns soon, but as optimistic as I was at the beginning of this season I'm beginning to lose hope. It doesn't look good for us at the moment. The thing that sucks the most is that they can definitely play better, but it must be impossible to motivate them. It sucks for Ruff, too, who shouldn't have to motivate do that night in and night out.

Last season, especially early, we had one of the most productive bottom-6's in the league. This year, they're terrible. This season isn't lost because Roy is hurt, but because the other people aren't living up to what they did last year (sound familiar?).

Haha, either way is worrisome. I just feel like Roy's injury is more in Ruff's favor because he can claim that his depth blows (and he'd be right) and maybe get the season written off despite the whole playing 20/40 minute games being around since 2007 thing.

This could be a blessing in disguise if he's out for an extended period of time. I don't believe any of us thought we could compete for a Cup this year and if this has us dropping to a top 3 pick (which it may very well), I'm quite content with that. Despite being broken up last night, that Foligno/Kassian/Couturier line sure looks like an NHL-ready line. I'd love to see the 3 of them in Buffalo next year.

If he's out for even a few weeks - that would seem to make the choice for them to be sellers by the deadline, if not sooner.

And if we move Connolly and lose Roy - I have to think we're right there with the Islanders and Devils, considering we're just barely above them with those two in the lineup.

And with Okposo close to returning, and Streit coming back during the second half, the Isles should be a better team than they've shown. Also, I fully expect the return of Parise and the steady hand of Lemaire to make the Devs more competitive. If Roy is out long-term and they move Monty and Connolly in late-January or February, and they then look to give Adam experience and evaluate the fringe players in the organization (Gerbe, Mancari, Grags), the standings at the bottom should get a lot tighter.

Did i hear it right?
yesterday on WGR, I thought i heard Paul Hamilton that there were "rumors" NJ may be looking to move Parise. If that turns out to be true (and pretending we have a aggressive management) ... what player(s) would be worth giving up for him?

I think Gaustad, Connelly, and Gerbe

It will take a lot more than that...

Probably a prospect like Ennis, a roster player, and a high round pick or two.

New Jersey would be looking for something totally different. Like Ennis, Weber, and our 1st Rounder. Probably a bit more than that, actually.

I'd still do that trade in a heartbeat though. Just so I could buy a Parise Sabres jersey.

Why would we trade for another winger? The only way I'd pay for Parise is if we end up outside of immediate contributing center territory pick wise and P would be willing to experiment with going back to center.
