Actually, a couple of years ago i was talking with one of the guys that was working on trying to bring an NHL team to KC and he said they (that particular group) was not interested in bringing an AHL team to town and that the city wants an NHL team. THat may change but that's my pudding.

KC had the Scouts (NHL) for 2 years. They had the Blades (IHL) for about 12 years. I think the AHL would work there, but you might need some divisional re-alignment.

KCK population 143,000 (2009); KCMO population 483,000 (2009).

KCK is losing population, about 5,000 over the last ten years.

KCMO is also losing population, but it is ranked as #35 in the US.

There's currently a CHL franchise in Independence (Missouri Mavericks). I know they currently have a winning record but how are they doing at the gate and in the community? Would their success or failure affect a higher league's ability to move or plant a franchise there?

I thought Ameristar was on the MO side but I digress. KC shouldn't be in the NHL conversation until they get an AHL team and they do well at the gate. Their big (and some would say only) bargaining chip is the Sprint Center which hosts nothing of consequence outside of neutral CBB games for KU and K-State. KC has built the arena; the question is now, borrowing from Field of Dreams, is "Will they come?"

there won't be an AHL OR NHL Team in Kansas City, then, not the way our league now operates, puckguy

I do not see where minor league success or failure is related to NHL success or failure. The Jets moved because they could not sustain an NHL team in Winnipeg for many reasons yet the moose have always done well. SF Spiders did not do well but sharks rule. Not a correlation at all.

Thanks for the info Hutch. They probably have more room on the Kansas side for such things.

I think that when the NHL returns to Winnipeg they should move the Moose to either KC or St. John's (Newfoundland)

TNSE HAS NO INTENTION of selling the Moose, and it's highly unlikely the NHL will be in Winnipeg anytime soon. Manitoban hockey fans should be thanking TNSE that it has the Moose....

Do you have any proof to back up these statements or is it more "Common Knowledge"?
