I have a feeling that the Russians are going to be good this year.

A hattrick by Kitsin for the Russian in the 3rd, 2nd Slovak goal scored by Hrivík, assisted by Jurčo and Kozák.

2 goals from slovaks = 7-8 from US/CAN, hope it's just a warm up and not a true display.

Lol, what do you expect? That noone asides from the Americans, Canadians and Swedes should be able to score on you at all?

i think you overreacting in here.at first slovaks arent weak at all and secondly- usa lost to cz.respublic, so is it means that americans are weak or checks are very strong and so on...

expect a better defensive performance against one of the weakest teams in the tournament (no disrespect)

Kitsyn's goals were all five-hole on Pek. Pek had done his best to keep the Slovak's in the game, but the second Kitsyn goal seemed to take the last wind out of their sails. It was a re-direct in front that just squeezed through his legs and Pes probably wanted it back.

There was definitely some tone-setting going on in the game though, as both teams took some extra swats at each other, some higher hits, and a fair measure of stickwork.

There was some beefing about the Tarasenko goal being offside -- we had friends sitting right on the line and they thought it was clearly out but from where I was sitting I couldn't tell.

The Russians also clunked one off the crossbar later in the game and hit the right post three times. Tarasenko roared off the bench and up the wall as the puck was coming to the blueline. He grabbed it, went inside the Slovak winger and then cut to the middle, delayed, and then sniped it. It was a dynamic play and one of his best on the day -- he had a couple others that came close.

arrogance? I got none, for Russia I only have hopes, but wouldn't be surprised if they are not in top 5 even.
As for Slovaks - just stating the facts I thought...

What facts? That we are too weak to score 2 stupid goals on your big Russia? Well, check your facts then, sir, even the gold medal winner conceded 3 goals last year from last year´s crappy Slovak team. And believe it or not when you check the rosters for all the teams in the tournament, except maybe for Norway each single team has at least a few players that are better than at least a third of your players, so if you use any logic while thinking it´s not so hard to figure out that some of them will eventually score even on Russia.

Not sure how it can be stating the facts when the tournament has yet to be played and final rankings yet to be determined. You are stating your opinion and not facts.

Anyhow, there are some positives that can be taken from the game versus Russia: forty shots against Russia in a game played just hours after the game versus Norway. Most importantly is nobody got hurt, like Milan Jurcina in an exhibition game a few years ago versus the Czechs right before Halifax.
