Both Jeffrey and Gerbe are first line AHL scorers with questions about how their game transitions to the NHL, but Gerbe at least looked good last season, especially in the playoffs. He's been the same guy this season, but like almost everyone in Buffalo, he can't find the back of the net. Even though he's small, he plays a really scrappy, tough game and I think he'd be a decent fit with Malkin. Even if he can't cut the Pens top six, he's a good forechecker and would be a useful agitator to go along with Talbot, Cooke, etc.
The value may be close, but I think that Gerbe's size would probably be a sticking point. Jeffrey will almost assuredly stick in the NHL in some capacity and he will likely become a very solid third line center for somebody barring a move to the wing. Beyond that, the Penguins would only really consider dealing Jeffrey for a more established player at this point I would think.

Obviously it would have to be Jeffrey+ to bring in Stafford, but I think a 2nd rounder might be a little steep. His current and probably realistic cap hit for next season falls somewhere in the RFA compensation range of a 2nd round pick. Unfortunately the Penguins don't have a 3rd or 4th round pick this year so I'm not sure what would balance it out value-wise.

I only thought Stafford might be an option anyway if Buffalo was looking to go into a full rebuild or if he was getting pushed out of a top-six spot on the wing.

I would think Weiss from Florida would be a good fit for Buffalo. Not sure what they'd have to give up but he could step in for Roy this year and they could see how things go. They can still deal Connolly if the season starts to fade at the end but still have Roy/Weiss for next year as a solid 1-2.

Getting Weiss out of Florida would probably be difficult though.

I bet Gerbe hits harder than Jeffrey.

whenever you "think you could get more" for a package... you are usually being a homer.

Maybe so. But forgive me for questioning whether or not a 5'5" guy can be entirely effective at the NHL level. Maybe Gerbe has ability to do it, but I'm not sure that I would trade away who I consider to be a sure bet to make the NHL in Jeffrey for him.

And beyond that, I could care less about hitting ability as compared to all around game. Jeffrey stands apart from most of the Penguins' prospect pool by having a higher hockey IQ than just about any of them. He is a player and if it weren't for Mark Letestu having an amazing camp and going on to lock down the third line center spot, Jeffrey would almost certainly be in the NHL right now.

Having said that, if Jeffrey could be used in a package deal to bring in a reasonably proven scoring winger I would have to imagine that Pittsburgh would be all over that, especially in the offseason.

what? a 50pt center for a guy who`s good in front of net and is not that good of a skater who projects to be a role player and maybe a borderline 2nd liner and a guy who has high value because he`s on team canada but won`t be anything more than a bottom six winger, sure you can throw in kassian too

Are you referring to the Tyler Bozak who is currently on pace for 26 points, or the imaginary 50 point Bozak?

What about upgrading Belanger or Fiddler with Connolly? If extended, either Coyote provides the faceoffs/defensive play Buffalo is gonna need next season and isn't a complete offensive black hole like Niedermayer has been.

I'd love Bozak, but the Leafs prolly don't want rental players and Buffalo isn't moving prospects for the guy. Especially two of its forwards with size, it's only center prospect with a shot at making the team next season and a hometown guy.

Connolly for Bozak is something I'd do, especially if he's on Toronto's radar as the best center not named Brad Richards to hit free agency and they want to get the jump on signing him.

Ok, but who's the 50-point center in the deal? Surely it cannot be Bozak, who has 38 pts in 70 NHL games, which projects to 44 pts over an 82-game season. More concerning is that he has 11 pts in 33 games this season while averaging 19 minutes/game. He's on pace for 27 pts this season. He'd probably average closer to 15 mins/game behind Roy (when he's in the lineup). And because he hasn't shown consistent offensive abilities, Buffalo would probably have to go out and get a 2a/2b center, as well.

And I can spin Adam's abilities, too. He was over a point/game player as an AHL rookie while learning the center position--he played primarily LW in junior. And he's 4+ years younger than Bozak, as well, so there's a ton more room for growth in his game.

Peter Regin and a fifth round draft pick for Marcus Foligno and a third round draft pick.

Regin will benefit from a change of scenery, and this permits the Folignos to reunite.

guys it`s pretty obvious that tyler bozak`s potential is 7.0A, anyone who saw him last year would know that he is going to be at least a 50pt center(not that many forwards regress permanently after a good rookie season), he just has to get used to the nhl schedule(college is like 40 games a season)
never mind my proposal, i thought it was decent in value(and the value of luke adam is hard to pin down), at least it wasn`t quantity for quality like all leafs fan are known for

What does Pominville's contract look like? I'd be interested in him from a Rangers standpoint.
