Orlov plays on the top pair for his KHL team. Not a surprise he is on the top pairing in this tournament.

He's always been a beast. He's improved a lot every single year.

Orlov's on the older side and will be counted on pretty heavily. As said, no surprise there really. No one else on their blueline has plays as heavy a role on a KHL team (albeit one of the weaker ones) or has been drafted by an NHL team.

Still no word yet if Galiev has officially made the team but he was reportedly one of two reserve forwards during today's practice (the older of the two...the other being Namestnikov), which bodes well just for simply making it. Word should come later today. Kuznetsov centered the second line with Valuisky & Kalinin. If Galiev does make it the Caps will have the most prospects participating.

No Galiev on team Russia according to our friends on the WJC sub-forum. Too bad.

Merry Christmas to you guys though!

Grubauer pulled after giving up 4 goals to the Swiss in the first (http://stats.iihf.com/Hydra/236/gameaction_2892.html)

Given all the penalties I'm going to assume Germany isn't playing a very strong game, but it's not televised so no clue if there's been anything soft or if he's just been helpless.

I'm really hoping that CAN vs RUS is a barn burner today. I don't really care who wins today as it's still early enough for Canada to bounce back if they lose.

Nice to read the work ethic the kid has, somewhat scary to read he already had shoulder surgery and will need it again.

He is at least one year away, but I wonder how will his progression factor into re-signing Semin.

Happy holidays folks,

Orlov with the primary assist as Russia takes a 1-0 lead.

Looks like Kuznetsov is playing more LW, though he is taking draws at times.

Eakin with a very nifty move in the offensive zone which then drew a penalty. Canada scores on the ensuing PP. Good stuff from Eakin.

Click "live" next to the game to get a popup that updates with scoring and PIM plays.

That should be another secondary assist for Orlov right there.

Pretty quiet period for Kuznetsov. Not overly engaged.

kuznetsov did not look good. canada's second goal was the culmination of an awful shift from him.

so hard not to like eakin.

He was a beast in the first, but that line didn't do much in the second. Up and down game for a lot of them.

Orlov's playing great. Amazing defensive & offensive instincts. So talented, he's got "it".
Kuznetsov is showing the great talent he posesses.
Eakin's getting it all done. Talent, hard-word, physical two-way play. What's not to like about him?

Orlov vacated responsible position. He was gassed.

A big key to beating Canada--or at least combating their PP--is going after Ellis & Schwartz on the points. The US forwards ought to have the speed and IQ to make that a bigger factor. Sweden as well.
