he's playing well, but that was a terrible dive by Schenn to draw a 5 on 3 with Canada already up 5-1 in the 3rd. You know it's bad when the homer Canadian announcers even call him on it.

Maxim Kitsyn plays in a few moments against a Sweden. Should be the game of the night. Really intriguing prospect this Kitsyn is. A left-winger too.

Brayden Schenn five point night, what a great day. Couldve had another goal but he hit the post. Just a boss today.

2-0 Sweden after the first period. Kitsyn was robbed a couple of times and had all the best scoring chances for Russia. I think he drew both Swedish penalties as well. He's a beast in front of the net. Kitsyn is definitely benifiting from playing with Tarasenko (who is incredible), allowing him to just plant himself in front of the net and look for garbage pucks.

Tuned into the start of the 2nd. Kitsyn just got robbed twice and he looked pissed on the bench

Yep for sure. This is the first time I've been able to see him play. Like what I see. Always in front of the net and battles hard there. Shows some grit and threw a nice hit in the defensive zone. Pretty lazy defensively, but the Russian team as a whole doesn't look like they enjoy backchecking much.

Sweden wins 2-0. Kitsyn with an excellent first half of the game but wasn't very noticeable after that, outside of a few hits.

You'd think he'd get better time considering he's one of the better "named" prospects on the team.

Ehhh he is paired with Leddy so I expect he will get more PT vs real opponents. His biggest thing is that he isn't on the PP (either unit) as the US has a few offensive defensemen ie Faulk/Merril. And to say he is one of the more "known" defensemen is wrong....basically all the D were top2 round picks with half being on the same USNTP team last year with Forbort.

That said he I think he coulda done more on the one goal they gave up.

Schenn in the memorial cup was OK, he was OK in last years WJC, and despite the stat sheet, he was pretty much underwhelming today for the forward with the most experience. The more i watch Schenn, the less excited I get about his top end potential.
Insert foot in mouth.

It was but not nearly as bad as Foligno dive out front of the net. I am Canadian and I am embarrassed right now with how the Canadians acted out there. This is supposed to be a big strong talented team, instead there's a ****ing goon (Kassian) taking his normal cheap late runs at guys and a bunch of divers. Not impressed at all.

Beating the Czech U20 team is nothing, they do not have the depth at that level to compete(since it's only basically one birth year), the Swedes and Americans and even Finns are going be the best this year, IMO.

Actually I think its a good thing, it shows that during his time practicing with the Kings, playing a few games, watching a few more games he was learning from other Kings players and that it wasn't a total waste of time due to the things he learned and the experience he gained. What you are referring to is a perfect example of what he learned from Captain Brown. I'm going to assume the 4 assists he learned from Kopitar, and the sniping abilities he picked up from Williams.

Fantastic.

Next year should be Forbort's coming out party at the WJC. Guy is 6'5 and pretty raw, still has some developing to do. Plus with as well as Faulk and Merrill have played in college and Leddy in the pros it makes sense to stick with those guys.

Then again, Schenn says if it had not been for those days as a spare part for the Los Angeles Kings in his first shot at the NHL, he might not be ready to step forward at this tournament. Schenn spent time in the company of Captain Canada himself, Kings winger Ryan Smyth, who passed along a wealth of knowledge from his seven stints as captain of Canadian teams in international competitions from the worlds to the Olympics.

“He’s helped me a lot,” Schenn said. “I sat beside him in the practice room, I was stall-mates with him. He was kind of in the same situation when he was 19. He wasn’t playing, he got sent to the minors and then actually got called back up and stayed as a 19-year-old.

“With the experience he has under his belt, anything he says, I listen.”

It ended up being the kind of night where Schenn could expect another approving text from Captain Canada, who is keeping his eye on his protégé.

“After the last game, he sent me a text: ‘Good job, I was watching,’” Schenn said. “It’s good to have a mentor like that watching me and seeing how I’m doing.”
Nice to hear that Smyth contributes off the ice and on the ice.
