Erik Gustafsson recalled (Laviolette expects Timonen to play at Los Angeles)

Gustafsson

Quote:
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have recalled 5-10, 180-pound defenseman Erik Gustafsson from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, on emergency conditions, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. It is the first NHL call-up for Gustafsson, who will be available for tomorrow's game against the Los Angeles Kings and will wear #27.
Timonen

BroadStBull: Lavvy says he expects Timonen to play Thurs.#Flyers
Update from CSN Philly:
Quote:
Timonen says its 50/50 he plays vs kings but won't miss more than a game. Leg injury it appears.
Update from Sarah B. @ CSN Philly:

Quote:
Kimmo's injury was to his hip flexor -- and isn't bad. Playing tomorrow isn't a stretch.

Quote:
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Watching Kimmo Timonen walk around the LA Kings’ practice facility on Wednesday afternoon, you might not suspect he’s injured.

The Flyers defensman is nursing a sore left hip.

Timonen, by his own admission, is “50/50” to play in Thursday’s game against the Kings in Los Angeles after aggravating the hip early in the third period of Tuesday’s 6-2 loss in Vancouver.

The Flyers are already banged up on defense with the loss of Chris Pronger for four to six weeks, following foot surgery.

Timonen walked with a slight limp and seemed to be favoring his left side. He also wore a left ankle support.

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette expects that Timonen will play. As a precaution, however, the club called up 22-year-old rookie Erik Gustafsson from the Phantoms.

Whoa!

Well at least the non-local fans will get to see what we have in this kid.

Has Bartulis played that badly, that we should already be giving his spot up?

I'm looking forward to seeing this kid play, but I'd rather it not be because Timonen is out.

i'd like to see him paired with coburn to see if he's really a timonen in the making. coburn-carle never ends well. i'd say let carle-bart be the 3rd pair that plays limited time, carle getting some PP shifts. mez-don o'seanell has been too good to mess with.

edit: this assuming, unfortunately, that kimmo will miss some time...

Do you mean because of this transaction or in general?

Bartulis replaced Pronger.

Gustafsson would replace an injured Timonen.

I don't think the move was made for Gustafsson to replace Bartulis (which would mean Timonen is healthy enough to play).

Sorry, I didnt quote the post I was replying to before. This is why I asked if Bart has been playing poorly.

Nice. I'm guessing this means Timonen is going to be out? I know he didn't finish the game last night but I hadn't heard anything about his health for future games.

I would like to see him play. As long as Kimmo isn't hurt.

Per Sam Carchidi's BroadStreetBull(****) tweet... Kimmo walking fine... will practice today:

"Told Timonen is walking around as if nothing happened. He will apparently practice today"

Remember it is Carchidi... so please take it FWIW

EDIT:

HOLD THE PRESSES... Followup:

"There is a fairly good chance Timonen will play Thurs. in LA. He's being held out of practice as a precaution"

If Timonen is questionable then they need someone up just in case... since the game is on the other side of the country. Not like you can call the guy up a few hours in advance.

Those commenting on Syvret... don't think he's exempt from waivers.

Yep. Syvret is the better option by far, however shooter isnít feeling to loyal to him lol. No need to risk getting stuck with a cap hit if he is claimed. It is the right move. Wonder if the great gus will get a chance to show if he is capable of making carle expendable and replacing him on the top pairing next year lol?

I've been a Bart fan...but he was terrible in that Panthers game, and not so great last night either. Hopefully, he'll improve as he shakes off the rust. With Timonen in the line-up though, I want Bart paired with him. I think it's definitely the way to go considering the circumstances. Whether it's Parent, Krajicek, Bartulis, or whoever...they seem to magically end up looking competent alongside Timonen. That pairing will be fine enough, and the rest of the pairings will be more balanced...

Timonen-Bartulis
Meszaros-Carle
O'Donnell-Coburn

Maybe even try switching Carle and Coburn there, but I'd lean towards keeping those two apart.

Gustafsson looked pretty damn good in preseason as I recall...I was wondering if he would be the one to get the call...actually surprised they didn't have him or someone else already traveling with the team for this road trip just in case.

If Syvret isn't waiver exempt Gustafsson makes more sense for a short term injury.

I believe that Syvret was obtained for the Phantoms and Postseason depth... It would be suicide to attempt to recall him, IMO.

Ha probably but his specialty is the powerplay,so if he does get the chance to play, he will most likely be on the powerplay
