"Eklund's latest" is that he feels that Nashville is searching for a top 6 forward, and that Tim Connolly is one of the names that is floating around in talks.
Another point he makes is that the Penguins could possibly be looking at Alexei Kovalev to be brought in to be the rental winger for Crosby. This is the most intriguing to me - it makes sense for the Penguins to be searching for a winger or two, but it doesn't make sense for that winger to be Kovalev.
Kovalev to Pittsburgh isn't happening. Just look at our roster on CapGeek and tell me how that's going to work. We aren't trading three grinders for an aging player who doesn't care. And that's about the only option.
I love Kovalev. Always have, always will. And he'd be exactly what Malkin would need on his right wing, too.
The problem is his cap hit is high, so the Pens would need enticement to take it on. Conversely, the Sens probably don't want to pay too much more to get rid of Kovy, since he's on an expiring contract anyway.
I don't see how the Pens can send about $5 million back to Ottawa without hurting the team, and I can't see why the Sens would want $5 million back in the first place.
