It's Eklund, so take it for what its worth.

"Eklund's latest" is that he feels that Nashville is searching for a top 6 forward, and that Tim Connolly is one of the names that is floating around in talks.

Another point he makes is that the Penguins could possibly be looking at Alexei Kovalev to be brought in to be the rental winger for Crosby. This is the most intriguing to me - it makes sense for the Penguins to be searching for a winger or two, but it doesn't make sense for that winger to be Kovalev.

Even though it's Eklund, it would kinda make sense. Kovalev would probably be motivated playing with Crosby or Malkin.

Kovalev is the antithesis of everything Dan Bylsma wants in a hockey player.

I can't think of many players less suited to play "Bylsma hockey" than Alexei Kovalev. He demands consistent effort and defensive accountability, and preaches dump, chase, cycle, north/south hockey.

It's Eklund fishing for hits.

I just don't understand, especially with his track record of being cancerous so far this season, why the Pens would bring in a player that could potentially result in the downfall in the locker room.

If I'm Shero, I'd be looking more at wingers like Langenbrunner - not at the Kovalevs.

I mean...they brought in Comrie this summer and Ponikarovsky last year so I guess it's possible.

I'd hate it though. Kovalev looks like he hasn't cared in a long time.

clearly Sid and Geno are better players, but why wouldn't Kovalev be motivated by Spezza and Alfie?

I think this would go against the 12-grinder mentality that Shero/Bylsma are building, and I don't think they're willing to do that for someone with potential motivation issues.

No. I don't buy any of Eklunds poo flinging, but rumors can't hurt people. If you don't like what he has to say, just ignore it.

Kovalev to Pittsburgh isn't happening. Just look at our roster on CapGeek and tell me how that's going to work. We aren't trading three grinders for an aging player who doesn't care. And that's about the only option.

Too much money. Why doesn't Ek sit down and actually think about these made up proposals logically?

Kovalev being traded means people will inevitably click on his site. The guy is a complete hack but he certainly knows ways to reel people in.

I love Kovalev. Always have, always will. And he'd be exactly what Malkin would need on his right wing, too.

The problem is his cap hit is high, so the Pens would need enticement to take it on. Conversely, the Sens probably don't want to pay too much more to get rid of Kovy, since he's on an expiring contract anyway.

I don't see how the Pens can send about $5 million back to Ottawa without hurting the team, and I can't see why the Sens would want $5 million back in the first place.

A three-team trade might be the only way here.

Yeah, Bylsma/Kovalev are probably not compatible. Kovy might not even need a Pens uniform if he gets traded here since he'll likely just wind up wearing a suite and watching from the press box.
