Then still, if a playe ris injury he shouldn't play, you can only make it worse.
Hemsky was quoted as saying that Renney wanted to keep him out but Ales insisted he play the Habs game since he already missed the 3 previous ones.

If Hemsky's both injuries came to the same part of the groin, like it's been said here. The doctors diagnose (I don't know if that's the right word) before the game where Hemsky made a comeback, (1.12?) was bad. That's what I meant. Not the initial diagnose right after the first injury.

McKenzie says he's hearing Whitney's recovery will be measured in months, not weeks.

just saw that, horrible news. This is probably the one long-term injury this won't be able to battle through.

@TSNBobMcKenzie I am hearing Ryan Whitney's injury is long term, measured more in months than weeks.

This pretty much guarantees us a top 3 pick.

Only bright side is it will help with one more top 3 pick. After this year I want them to go hard and target useful key guys via trade or free agency after another top pick. I just want one more!

Sigh.

The hockey gods just want to ensure we stay in the lottery.

Whoever we get in the draft we must be destined to get them.

Hopefully this is not a long term injury for Whitney that lingers for his career and is something that can be cleared up just with a few months away.

Sheldon Souray ... if you ever wanted to get back into the NHL ... right about now might be a good time to kiss Tamby's ass and *publicly* apologize.

It's not just Sheldon, both sides need to man up. The problem is that pesky little re-entry waivers.

Tamby isn't going to man up about anything. Souray publicly embarrassed him and the proper apology is a public one.

Realistically though Shelly's NHL career is probably over.

Not good at all. Next topic so if we are picking third who are the NYI and NJD devils picking? What is the percentage for us winning the lottery? Center or Dman? Oops maybe I should make a thread.

Whitney has always had issues with his ankles or feet or whatever, and he just had surgery over the summer, so it's not looking good at all.

We can take a couple positives out of this. The obvious would be that this pretty much guarantees us a bottom 3 finish and maybe even worse(or better. Whichever way you want to look at it). The other is that Petry is going to a lot of ice time in a pressure free environment. Lets face it...from this point on, the games are meaningless.

There is a pretty major negative and I hope people keep this in mind for the remainder of the season. Hall and Eberle's production rate is most likely going to drop significantly. They have scored a lot of goals off the rush and a lot of it was triggered by Whitney's breakout pass.

May sound mean

but I like it becuase that means more chance at the first overall pick and of course--more panic on this board(I am easily amused sometimes)

Another bright side is that Petry's learning curve will have to rise sharply. We might be able to see what this kid can really do........or not!

There's a major problem within the Oilers organization when it comes to managing injury situations. The players are at fault for thinking that they can play through them instead of taking two or three games off and the team is at fault for not telling them to take those games off. Your ankle's bugging you a little Ryan? You're not playing. I levy the same criticism Horcoff's way. If you miss practice, you're not playing the next game. Period.

It doesn't matter how many top three picks we get because this injury cloud keeps hovering over this organization. Is it all bad luck? I seriously doubt it.

I certainly haven't been as high on Whitney as most of you have. He's been good offensively, ok great offensively, but I'm not a fan of his defensive work. I'm not saying we were a playoff team before he got hurt, but I don't think this automatically makes this team a bottom two team.

Le sigh.

If Whitney is out for "months," this season is all but over. Doesn't he still need to get surgery on one of his feet? If so, perhaps this is the best time to make that happen.
