WJC-Habs

The hockey season starts this week and living in Australia I will miss it until Christmas. I will be home in time for the WJC. Can anyone tell me any of the Habs prospects that will be playing in the tourney. Not just Canada but any teams. Thanks. Can't wait to come home.

Off the top of my head, the possibilities are....

Kostitsyn for Belarus
Halak for Czech Rep (goalie)
Urquhart for Canada (bit of a reach, but he may impress enough as he's a quality junior scorer)
Locke for Canada
Korpikari for Finland
Korneev for Russia

I wouldn't bet my house on Locke, If you look at team canada philosophy if Locke is not on the top 6 ,he won't be there in the bottom 6.

I also think that Belarus was relegate on B division of the WJC

Unfortunately no. According to international rules once a player has played for a country in international tournaments he can never play for another country. I can't remember who it was but there was a fairly big controversy about, I believe a goalie, that wanted to play for a certain national team but couldn't because as a junior he'd already played for a different country.

I've seen close to 20 games already in both the Ohl and the "Q" and Locke is by far the best player I've seen so far........(haven't seen Crosby yet)....
He is still a dazzling playmaker and has dominated every game he's palyed so far.......He's proven that last year was no fluke......Matt who?!

I would be extremely surprised if the WJ brass took another pass on Locke...........Locke is indeed a lock.....

With Staal and Hornton in the nhl , Locke is a lock to make the team at the WJ

You just couldn't resist the pun could you?

And I am in total agreeance here. I will be shocked if Corey Locke isn't wearing Team Canada colour's come December. Give the kid a challenge already!

That IIHF rule was changed over the summer:

http://www.iihf.com/news/iihfpr2603.htm

However, I don't think Kastsitsyn qualifies under the new rule.

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know that the rules had changed. But you're right I don't think that Kastsitsyn will be able to apply for a new team as he hasn't been playing on a Russian national team for four years.
