Yeah, that was the Kings' best imitation of the Sharks a couple of days ago.

The team was just off. Some players came to play but a whole bunch did not. Unfortunately the players who didn't made big mistakes leading to goals when they came on the ice in the first. From that point it was basically over.

Kopitar now has 40 points in 36 games.

Climbing into the Top 10 of NHL scoring.

Johnson and Doughty set the early tone for the game. I would still split them up when Mitchell comes back.

Doughty-Scuderi
Mitchell-Johnson
Martinez-Greene

The Kings tend to play some of their worst hockey against the Coyotes, really against any Dave Tippett-coached teams. I wish I knew why that is.

This one reminded me of that terrible opening day game in 2009 against Phoenix, which was another 6-3 stinker.

From Hammond:

The Kings will stay with the plan, and Jonathan Bernier will get the start in goal tomorrow night against Philadelphia, Terry Murray said after the game. Little blame was put on Jonathan Quick tonight, though, as the Kings bemoaned their overall effort and said they simply didn’t come ready to play. Murray said he would take the game and “put it in the trash can.” Postgame quotes to come…

YEP !!! said this in another thread a day or two ago ...
as good as they are, they're young and they'll still make mistakes, better right now to have an experienced shut down guy along side each of them to cover for those mistakes.

Dave Tippett stole the Kings play book when he left the Kings ... he knows what we're going to do before we do it

Phoenix has now won four straight over the Kings and is 15-5-2 in the last 22 meetings. Things are even more one-sided in games in Arizona, where Los Angeles has won just seven of 33 games (7-24-3) dating back to 1999.

Doughty/Johnson were awful. Doughty played as though he had a really long night out somewhere last night. REALLY LONG. I've never seen a high profile player swing and miss at the puck twice in one game.

If you were ever a hockey player at any level, they are places you just couldn't get excited about. Phoenix is that place for the Kings. Just move on and prepare for the next game.

Good test for Bernier tomorrow.

Typical craptastic effort in Phoenix from the Kings.

Doughty and Johnson were pathetic.

... I think Murray's right, just throw this one into the dumpster and forget about it. They can't win them all.

Not surprised to see Doughty/Johnson get blamed as they're the designated whipping boys on the BB this season, but for my money, Handzus and Lewis were worse. I thought Murray did a good job rolling over his lines to keep everyone fresh, but some of the forwards just let him down today.

Quick was just as bad as the rest of his team. Six goals on 18 shots is poor, no matter how you slice it. Two goals were off the angle, just soft.

The big matchup at home against Philly is tomorrow. Perhaps some of the Kings were looking ahead to that one, instead of taking care of their business tonight? It happens.

This was abomination and immediately reminded me of the Blues game.

After being embarrassed by the Canucks I kind of don't want to catch the Flyers game lol.

The Coyotes look like the ****ing 80's Oilers against us and Shane Doan looks like Wayne Gretzky. They look like they are flying out there. Kings sucked a fat one better come to play tommorow.

Agree that Johnson and Doughty were awful but Scuderi also had one of his weaker games.

Biggest culprit up front was Handzus. My god was he terrible tonight.

How about that Westgarth though

Def agree about Handzus, the dude flat out sucked on both ends of the ice. First time all season that one player has had me yelling at the tv. That's sayin something.

The Kings aren't the Red Wings; and, even the Red Wings get blown out. It happens to all teams. You think Colorado was happy to get whipped on by us? Or San Jose for that matter? There's a lot worse ways to lose.

Red Wings got destroyed by the Islanders last season. Every team lays an egg or two over 82 games; it's just frustrating to see it on the heels of such a great game in San Jose.

Yup. This is just what the Kings do against the Coyotes. It's not a late 90's Dallas Stars situation, because for the last decade the Kings and Coyotes have been on the same level. Except when the Kings play the Coyotes.
