Hockey dvds?

Hi,

I would like to buy some hockey dvds and would like advice on which to get. I don't want movies I want factual dvds. I already have Ultimate Gretzky, a Minnesota Wild dvd and Les Chiefs. Please can people tell me what other dvds are available. Im not interested in the latest dvds which are made on the stanley cup winning teams. Are there any dvds on players like the Ultimate Gretzky one on legends such as Bobby Orr or Gordie Howe? Is the Rock em sock em series good? What about the Legends of hockey series.

Any info appreciated on any factual hockey dvds.

Thanks.
Ed

The Legends of Hockey Series are the best factual DVDs on hockey. Other DVD sets are in the works and include the 'Hockey-A People's History Series' that will chronicle the game from a 'people's perspective'.

Legends of Hockey is quite good. Rock em Sock em is pretty lame, IMO.

If you don't mind VHS, the best hockey videos ever made are: Great Plays from Great Games (1990 Hosted by Ron McLean) and The 50 Greatest Playoff Goals (1993 Hosted by Ron McLean and Dick Irvin). Find them, they are well worth the search.

Are you interested in old games on DVD? I know of a couple of websites that have some. I will have to get back to you for the sites, I am not on my own computer.

He has tapes much closer to the original source than others and he is honest.

What are your sites?

I also recommend the Legends of Hockey, it's a good starting point.

I've ordered some older game dvd's from this place:

Does it have much old stuff on it? From what I read about it it seemed to be nearly all action from the last 10 years. What about the games with Howe and the cups won in the 50's?

I think this is every ice hockey dvd available in North America on the internet that is not a movie or one of those stanley cup winners dvds.

Minnesota Wild (State of hockey)
Ultimate Gretzky
Greatest sport legends hockey dvd
Legends of hockey series 1
Legends of hockey series 2
Canadas team of the century 72 series (19 hours of footage)
Summit on ice
Blade wars series Canada Cup 87 championship round game 1
Blade wars series Canada Cup 87 championship round game 2
Blade wars series Canada Cup 87 championship round game 3
Blade wars Canada Cup 87 all 3 games.
Blade wars Canada Cup 87 highlights.
Blade wars Canada Cup 91 highlights
Do You Believe in Miracles? - The Story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team
NHL LORD STANLEY'S CUP
Detroit Red Wings "Celebration of Champions''
Les Chiefs
NHL: All-Access
Mark Messier - Leader, Champion & Legend
75, Forever - The Tradition Of The Toronto Maple Leafs
A Celebration of Hockeytown
Hockey's Greatest Era 1942-1967
Sports Bloopers: Hockey

If anyone can think of any others please let me know.

Unfortunately, the only 'televised' game action of Detoit's cup winning games in the 1950's is the last part of the 1955 final game. All the other footage of Howe and the Cups in the 50's are Stanley Cup films and newsreels - stuff that is already available.

The dvd's I bought (70's & 80's stuff) seemed to be vhs-quality, taped from a live tv-broadcast at the time. Just copied to a dvd later.

Include "Forever Rivals" on that list, but it may have been transferred to DVD by now.

This guy prefers to trade for hockey memorabilia. I also have another source, not sure what his site is but, I have his lists of games. I will post when I get a chance.

Thanks, but the word about that site is that the quality of the tapes is not very good.

Don't be fooled by the list as others have many more and better tapes.
