Well, sometimes you just need to get out of the comfort zone to make progress. Putting Leighton in is putting an end to that comfort zone Good job, Flyers.

With you. Just frustrated to watch two games with what should be top teams. In the first we are rusty, in the second, they are tired. We'll still never know how each team really stacks up. And if the refs would ever just let the players play, it would be a great league.

Do we really care how they stack up in December/January? I mean, really?

Maybe Leighton is the spark that will make the Flyers great. Hear me out. The Flyers have been on a bad losing streak lately getting completely outscored. With Leighton in net the Flyers realized they had to score over 6 goals to secure a victory. Thus turning a scoring drought into a confidence boosting blow out. Just send Leighton out there whenever a bad stretch comes around. Am I crazy? haha

Timonen doesn't lose. He simply allows other teams to win.

I love how we have constructed a personality for Kimmo that involves him being an egotistical womanizer.

Timonen isn't an egotistical womanizer. He simply has a realistic view of himself. Smart women see the same thing.

Wanna fix the whole Afghanistan thing? Send Kimmo. However, Geneva might prohibit that as being "unfair."

The Nordic people didn't exist before Kimmo. He just got drunk one day while ****ing around with a time machine and banged every chick in Northern Europe 25,000 years ago.

This means Timonen is his own ancestor. That's really the only logical way he could exist.

Richards, who centered Danny Briere and James van Riemsdyk, liked the new lines.

"Sometimes, you just need a little shake-up to get things going," he said. "Our forecheck was great tonight, which it wasn't for the last five or six games."

"Every line seemed to be clicking," said Briere, who had a goal and an assist - and a gash above his lip, courtesy of Drew Doughty's stick.

Leighton was shaky in his first start of the season, but Richards (two goals, two assists) led an attack that produced the Flyers' highest output since an 8-7 loss to Tampa Bay on Nov. 18.

"It wasn't our best game, but sometimes you need to win ugly to get going," Briere said.

After a poor first 40 minutes, Leighton was much sharper in the final period.

"When you're off for a long period of time - and you're coming off surgery - and you step back into the National Hockey League, you're probably going to have to feel your way around a little bit," Laviolette said. "It makes it tough on a goaltender. It was good for him to get through it and get some work."

Ahhh, those were the lines? I was wondering. Awesome.

First, the WTF combo of Hartnell-Briere-Leino tears up. Tonight, the WTF combo of Briere-Richards-JVR was fantastic.

I like these WTF lines involving Briere.

I love it when a guy earns his salary. I was never one to **** on Briere but this year he is really bringing it.

Tim P.'s post-game report is up:

http://www.csnphilly.com/12/31/10/Fl...482&feedID=704

Quote:
Early on, Leighton legitimately looked as if he hadn’t played an NHL game with a pair of bad first-period goals.

“I wasn’t nervous but more excited to get out there and it seemed to backfire because that first goal was pretty weak,” Leighton said. “I definitely felt better in the third period. [Goalie coach] Jeff Reese told me I had to start fighting for pucks more and try to find it. I wasn’t seeing the pucks coming in. I worked on it in the third and it seemed to help.”

Twice the Flyers came back from deficits, forged ahead in the middle frame, then survived a third-period push from the Kings.

“I thought we had good jump offensively,” Laviolette said. “I was really happy to see us come back when it was 1-0 and then 1-1 and come back again.

JVR - Richards - Briere looks good to me. 8 points among the three of them tonight, 4 of which are goals.
