Beauchemin drawing interest

Beauchemin has a limited no-trade, but he's drawing interest. A lot more chatter now across the NHL.
Any thoughts as to which teams?

All of them. Everyone is offering a top 6 forward and a 1st.

Trade talk heating up. Teams are calling the Leafs, asking about a number of players, but there isn't an offer yet, worth taking.

I have no specifics and am up to eyes in WJC, but my sense is we'll see some NHL trades (didn't say big ones) in coming days. TOR? Possibly.

Perhaps a deal with the Devils, no pun intended. Seems interesting that this is happening a day or two after Rolston cleared re-entry waivers. Could be something around that, but I think it's unlikely. Just throwing something out there.

Beauchemin has been playing well recently (aside from last night) so it's not surprising that teams are interested

Id be willing to offer up a solid prospect along with Beauchemin if SJ would deal Clowe.

Very ideal assumption, I concur with you on this one. Nj needs the depth and we need offense. Rolston is not my ideal pick but... anyone else works

He's been nothing but horrid for most of the year, any decent return is a plus for the Leafs.

Beauchemin has been playing very well as of late, so if we do trade him, i hope it's for a first, or for a young player with top definite top 6 upside.

I agree. He's been playing well for maybe 10% of the season and horrid the other 90%

Lots of teams will want a guy like Beauchemin. He's a solid 2-way defenceman at a fair contract who can log big minutes in just about any situation, plus he's got a cup ring. He plays on one of the worst teams in the league, but regularily goes up against other team's top units.

Vancouver will problably try to hang onto Bieksa, and all they need is one long term injury to make that happen. Beyond that, there isn't much in the form of defencemen available. The only people who think he's played horrid are the ones who think giveaways are the most important stat for a defenceman. Tell that to Duncan Keith.

Rolston has 5 points this season and is done as an NHLer. Acquiring Rolston for Beauchemin to fix the team is like trying to cure the common cold with syphilis.

Beauchemin has played well for more than just a measly 4 games this season.

I too used to used to bash him consistently, but you gotta give credit where credit is due, and he certainly deserves it.

Some people don't watch hockey but still feel the need to post. That's pretty much what you are replying to.

He's been passable getting 25 minutes a night. I suspect he'd be excellent with 20 minutes a night.

I'd offer Phoenix's 2nd, David Schlemko(a young bottom-pairing type with a little upside left) and Nick Ross(Brad's Brother, former first rounder, long-shot prospect, desperately in need of a change of scenery).

Leafs fans made Beauchemin their whipping boy the first week of his contract. He's quite a good defenseman, but what Leafs Nation ignores is that he's a second pairing defender being paid second pairing money going up against the absolute elite of the NHL night after night. He's a guy who plays better as the number three (look how well he did in Anaheim), but he's being asked to play above his talent level. That's not his fault.

Leafs brass is talking to the TSN guys about possible trades. How many times a year does this happen and no trades are ever made? Burke loves to flap his gums.

Love this paragraph in the Toronto Star this morning

Quote:
An observation on the blue-liners in front of him, however: Veterans Mike Komisarek and Francois Beauchemin were supposed to be the defensive anchors. On many nights, they’ve been the defensive anvils. This was one of them.
http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey...ve-let-gm-down

Is Scott Niedermayer making a comeback and that team wants to reunite that pair? Why would any team want Beauchemin based on his play in Toronto unless they're dealing their problem to Toronto in exchange? The player does have another year on his contract. $3.8M cap hit.

Why? Yes, okay, he is playing better but he was beyond bad before that. This would clear even more cap space for this summer.

I thought Schenn goes up against the elites night after night and was already a "top pairing" dman.

I dont watch all the games but the ones I have he has been pretty horrible. His giveaways usually lead to goals or dangerous scoring chances. Im not a leaf fan so thats probably why I see a little more clearer than the foggy glasses...He could probably get a 2nd pick though...or an average 3rd line center.

When Phaneuf was injured he got top pairing minutes, hes still in the 20s night after night, and doing great.

But thats only 15(?) games. 20 minutes a night is not top pairing minutes, its mid pairing minutes.
