Should we lobby for the Que Govt to make taxes exempt for Habs players?
If Quebec City and Nordique fans can lobby the govt to put up money for an arena, why can we not lobby the government to allow Habs players to play tax free? We're not talking about a lot of money in the long run here.
Since we are never at the bottom of the pile and never will have a chance to pick a superstar, unless we find a Zetterberg or Datsyuk (which nobody ever does), the only other way is to get UFA's here.
There seems to be a misconception that Quebec taxes are higher than taxes in that bracket elsewhere. They aren't from what I understand, except for states that don't collect income tax like FLorida and Texas, etc. Just a thought.
I'm sure the people of Quebec would not be happy to know that a rich group, mostly made up of immigrants making more money than them, would be exempt from income tax.
The way things are in the US, taxes could suddenly become a big problem for pro athletes. There's not much else left for Obama to tax. A better idea might be to lobby for getting paid in C$ instead of US$.
Fact is, UFA's are not signing here and this would only be a drop in the bucket. I'm sure we'd hear complaints, but I think if it's possible it should be pushed through.

This. The city takes forever to clean my street from the snow. Always makes me wonder why the **** we pay so many taxes for ****** service. Not sure if it's related but still, we pay too much taxes for what we get.
With the trade of Lapierre and the overall difficulty we have to get francophone on this team, maybe it can be a good idea if we exempt only the habs born in quebec from taxes...

Only the last one matters, really. Detroit is an epic hole and players love to play there because they know they can get Cups. By comparison I feel fairly certain in saying Montreal is still a popular destination for much of the league to visit and not just because of the strip clubs.
Everything else can be easily rebutted by the Habs in talking to free agents.
There is no way the richest and luckiest people in Quebec get a tax exemption, while people like doctors who actually serve a useful purpose are leaving the province to go to the United States to have lower taxes.
