Dan Ellis/Mike Smith...any interest?

Now that the Lightning acquired Dwayne Roloson, I would imagine one of Dan Ellis or Mike Smith would either be waived or available in a trade. Any interest? I personally wouldn't mind of them as a waiver claim or re-entry deal, but I would not trade anything for these guys. I don't think either are better than any of our options, but at this point with blurry #1 goalie situation at this point, it doesn't hurt to have another option. I only bring it up because I remember a lot of people wanted Ellis in the offseason and criticized Homer for not going after him. Now he or Smith are likely available.

They're not better than what we already have.

I feel kind of bad for Roloson. I know he's leaving for a playoff contender, but the man has spent his entire career bailing out mediocre to crappy teams.

He finally gets on a contender and it's a contender made up of an incredible top 6 to go with the rest of a mediocre to crappy team.

yeah no thanks.

now if someone signs nabby on the cheap and we have a chance to snatch him on waivers, that'd be a different situation

I missed the Anaheim game, but if it was the defense that cause the crappy 3rd, then don't touch the goalies.

They're fine. This is the yearly slump that everyone should have seen coming a mile away. Best to have it now rather than March/April.

Why would we pick up another goaltender when we are already having to cut a goaltender from the roster? Not to mention that they're both having terrible seasons.

The defense has been rather horrid but to suggest that the goaltending could not use improvement would be inaccurate IMO.

Yeah, that's kind of why I brought it up. In the offseason people were ready to kill Homer for not going after Ellis (among others) and now it seems like no one would want him. I wasn't for signing Ellis in the offseason, and still don't really want him, but if they can claim in on waivers or re-entry waivers, I don't think it would be a bad thing. It may not help, but I don't think it would hurt. I certainly wouldn't give anything up for either of these guys.

And if Leighton and Smith were in Tampa with Roloson going in, while we had Ellis, the same question would be asked. Ellis would have been better here because Tampa's defense is so bad, while whoever was going there would have been lit up. Roloson will make it look better, but he would do more than just look better here.

People wanted Ellis, because they didn't want Leighton. Now that Leighton is back, it's irrelevant.

In my defense, Ellis is still a better goalie than Leighton.

Oh goody... Now with an even number of goalies the Flyers could break up into two units and use both sheets of ice in Voorhees so all the goalies can once again have enough practice time.

A brilliant stoke of genius to solve Lavvy's current problem.

I never wanted Ellis and felt he was completely overrated this summer, but I would have and still would take him over Leighton.

Not sure if we can't. Depends on who we move. If Leighton is moved it's 1.5M already. If Carcillo is gone it's what almost 2.5M? 2.5 is about what Tomas will be worth around the dead line. If not less.

Right? Wrong?

What if we move Zherdev? as well as Leighton to make room.

Do not tell me we can not afford this guy. We also have 1st round pick too.

How much cap room do we have right now?

We have zero cap room, and are living in LTIR.

Because we bank zero cap space as the year goes along, you basically just add Vokouns entire cap hit when you trade for him... pro-rating the deal doesn't work for you when you have no cap space.
