Also, Vinny Prospal had a setback. Throw out "mid-January" for a return. It's becoming a matter of if, not when, he plays this season.

Setback for Prospal. Needed to rest right knee, rather than him skate yesterday. Torts hoping, not expecting, he'll play this season.

And in fact, this could be the end of his career. Good guy, excellent player, sad ending.

Kudos to whoever called this recently.

As unfortunate as this is, it does mean more cap space at the deadline, if I am correct.

Sigh. Rangers should keep him around to work with the centers. We need that face-off percentage to go up!

Larry Brooks reported back in October about Vinny possibly missing the entire season.

Quote:
Meanwhile, a well-placed source has told The Post that there's little reason for optimism that the condition of Vinny Prospal's right knee will improve following his enforced two-week rest period. Indeed, we're told it would be no surprise at all should the 35-year-old require surgery that would likely end his season, if not his career.

Vinny had knee surgery in October but has not made much improvement. He has no pain or discomfort in the knee(until recently)but the knee is weak.He has not regained any strength in that leg.

The Rangers won't have to pay the $1.4M games played bonus if Vinny can't play.

Better chance Zuccarello OR Weise stays, puts the Fedotenko signing in sharper perspective, ect.

Very, very unfortunate. But the simple bonuses in the contract also make a lot of sense now.

I wasn't expecting much from him even if he came back. He is turning 36 coming off a serious knee injury. He was very good the first couple of months last year, his play fell off after that.

the setback was White falling into his knee during a pick up game

Been saying this all year. Something just didn't seem right. Return was pushed back a few times. Little tough to swallow, but the team has been without him all season, have to soldier on.

I had a feeling he wouldn't be back at all this season. And even if he did come back, I wasn't sure if he would contribute all that much anyway.

We've been doing fine without him so it isn't such a huge blow. Sure, it would have been nice to have added a healthy Prospal at some point in the season, but we've seen a lot of the young guys step up and take on leadership roles in his absence.

really a non story.

many here didnt expect him back at all and the one who said he'd be back, expected little from him given the injury and extended time off.

those who expected he would return and contribute were probably a little unrealistic.

sounds like his career is probably over. great team guy. i will miss his goal scoring celebrations and goofy faces.

canada down early already on a terrible goal.

Tough for Vinny. I love the guy, and feel bad for him.

Tough break for Vinny - would've certainly helped this team, if healthy.

Then again, in hindsight, this situation makes the decision not to trade him at last year's deadline look even worse than it did back then.

This sucks. This team would be totally different with a healthy Prospal adding his 50 or so points over an entire season.

On the optimistic side, hopefully we get to see MZA or Weise stick around for a lot longer.

If anything, it affects next year's cap space, the bonus won't be rolled into next year.

Yup, well if the team is sticking to the plan of a young core, he didn't really fit. Class act, at least he's still getting that T Bay money lol.

So with this news, what are the chances that Zuccarello stays up the rest of the season ?

Sucks. Vinny P is a great veteran presence and he loves the game. I'll miss his goal celebrations.

Zucca better stick around now and play decent hockey. With all these injuries to our forwards, not just to Prospal, but also Cally, Feds, Christ, Boo, we need Zucca to be good. You love 5 forwards, it's a big deal.
