I play quite frequently. I don't make a lot of trades (I'm usually terrible at gauging player value lol) but I've really become a good drafter, having played the NHL series for several years now. A lot of my picks end up being in the 80-90 range when I'm done with them.
Zach Parise for Olli Jokinen, Robyn Regehr and a 1st
Angelo Esposito for Corey Sarich
Scott Hartnell for Niklas Hagman
Thomas Hickey for Daymond Langkow
Jeff Tambellini for Curtis Glencross
Adam Foote for a 3rd round pick and a prospect.
Claimed Brian Elliot off waivers.
Signed Josh Gorges, Dan Carcillo and Jose Theodore after the first season.
Marian Sprukts (4th round rookie pick)-Backlund-Bourque
I'm still rocking NHL 10, way too far in (and poor) to simply buy the new game and forget my old team. I play with auto-save off, so I do the draft over and over and always make sure to get a teams first and make sure they lose (lol). I think I'm in the year 2018 (or something like that..) and almost my entire team was drafted by me, with the exception of Ovechkin (99), Backlund (94), E. Johnson (96), Bouwmeester (90) and Varlamov (89?). I also play (and win) every game.
I like to create my own team, put the whole roster of a lesser known/bad team on it (ATL, FLO) and start with that in be a gm, i find it funner to built on up. the first thing i usually do is stack up on 1st rounders, which is insanely easy (trade a combo of picks 2,3,4 or 5,6,3, etc) and no matter how bad the team is and how high there first rounders gonna be those kind of trades always work. (i ALWAYS fleece the flames lol) anyone notice how the AI flames are absolutely terrible throughout pretty much a decade in be a gm mode tho lol? but yah, i stack up, and build from there (if you can, aquire Kulikov) dudes won like 3 norris' in a row for me now.
I really like the development on the game, I picked up Howse, and the second season i had him i was short a 2nd line LW just just grinders in FA and i couldnt get the comp. to accept a trade for the life of me so i called him up and he went from a 78 to a 83 after a season but than on my next file i picked him up and waited a few more seasons to bring him in and he completely flopped..
Anyone else HATE the trading on this game?
but anyways, here's my lineup off the top of my head,
Too lazy to check all the ratings but Conz is like 97, and guys like Mcilrath and Machenek are both 85 and for some reason only requested 800k from me for like 5 seasons lol, and if you ever see Ciroi in FA, pick him up, he put up 100 pts in the AHL and scored 30-30 in his rookie season (slow as **** tho)
I'm kind of a cheater though, i tend to try swipe the players that i KNOW will break out huge by playing previous files.
I do something similar to one of the posters above, I "move" a team by creating my own team and replacing them with one of the less stable teams in the league. This year I moved Pho to Las Vegas and dubbed them the Outlaws, I then did a fantasy draft. I typically draft young skilled guys knowing I can fill out the roster with older UFAs after the draft. So I basically have most of the early draft picks of the last couple years in my system
I'm currently in only my second season but I have:
S Hartnell, S Crosby, P Kessel
L Eriksson D Roy T Selanne (UFA signing after the draft)
T Hall J. Madden (also a UFA signing) T Holmstrom
K Brennan (UFA) G Metropolit (UFA) A Aliu
N Kronwall S Weber
J Oduya K Quincey
S Staios (UFA) C Rivet (UFA)
N Khabibulin, J Harding
And I currently have over 8 mil in cap space available.
In the system I have: Jeff Skinner, Brayden Schenn, Brad Ross, Magnus Paajarvi, Nino Niederreiter, Zach Kassian, Nizem Kadri, Kirill Kabanov, Evengy Frachev, Sott Glennie, Jordan Eberle, Alex burmistrov, Kyle Beach, Alex Pietrangelo, Erik Gubranson, Cam Fowler, Simon Despres, Jared Cowen and Brock Beukeboom
all in all I'm pretty much set up for the long haul, especially since I beleive I've stockpiled 3 first rounders and two secound rounders for the upcoming draft.
