Was only a matter of time. I suspect he is assigned to the AHL tomorrow.

Michael Leighton must have the weirdest year of an NHL goaltender ever. He gets waived and picked up by a team in 29th place. He goes 16-5-2 the rest of the season, until he's out with a high ankle sprain. He returns and on the first day he's riding the pine, the goalie now in net gets himself injured. He gets in net half way through the game and preserves a shutout for the rest of the way. He then shuts out the same team in the next game for 59 minutes, then in the next round he shuts out the team 3 times in 5 games. He then plays in the Stanley Cup Finals, doesn't have a great series though his opponent doesn't either, let's in a weak overtime goal which wins the other team the Cup and consequently gets blamed.

He then gets offered a contract that he takes, but gets injured. After almost 3 months through the season, he finally plays his first game and picks up a win, though he didn't look amazing. 4 days later, he's back on waivers.

Anyway, good luck. Not sure if he'll be picked up. I hope he does, both for him and for the organization. If he doesn't get picked up, he'll finish out the rest of his career in the AHL, since Holmgren is not going to take the risk of someone claiming him off reentry waivers. At least I hope he won't.

Note to other fringe goaltenders: Be honest about your injuries.

My guess is he clears...Philly was probably waiting for TB to get a goalie, and now that they have, it is unlikely another team will grab him and his $1.5M salary this year and next.

Yes we should.... JSG has a wonky hip/groin and is injured non stop. Monster has shown he cant carry the load by himself. Reimer had a nice first game.. but was never overly tested and was running off adrenaline all game.

Be honest and don't get offered a contract that can buy you a nice house when you've been working in the AHL for the most part? That's just silly.

Isles won't claim him simply because by trading Rolie they've sorted out the congestion in Bridgeport.

No.

This needed to be more than 4 characters, this sentence is unnecessary.

That doesn't make the slightest bit of sense. Flyers waived him because they wanted to get rid of him. Why would they want to wait after another team that might have picked him up (though unlikely) got themselves a different player to fill that need.

What would a year be without Leighton on the waiver wire?

That's as bad as Clemmensen being NJ's MVP while Marty was out, then being sent down once he returns. Maybe a team like Anaheim will claim him.
