Nah they shouldn't. Even tho he's oft injured, dipietro is a better option. & isles need to see what they have in lawson. He looked decent in his first nhl game last month and will likey get a chance to see if isles retain him to backup next year.
Now that Lawson is up from BST, there's no longer a logjam in the net btwn Nate, Poulin & Koskinen. Bringing in Leighton would just recreate the problem & keep those two kids from getting starts they need to continue to develop.

Give it a shot Shero, I feel Prucha would be a good fit in Pittsburgh and half the price.

I can't see Prucha making it past Edmonton.

If the Islanders pass on him, Edmonton will probably take a shot. He's soft, but he and Hemsky played together during the lock-out in Pardubice and I beleive Prucha was in the middle that season with Hemsky from time to time. 550K and an expiring contract is no risk. If I recall, he's an ok pker too.

Leighton...I doubt he gets claimed.

I always thought Prucha would be a nice fit with Malkin or Crosby....cheap and he slash to the net for garbage goals and rebounds. He did a lot of that with Jagr early in his career. He's got enough speed to keep up and he won't hurt you defensively.

So how would disclosing it and not getting a 3.1M contract have been in his best interest?

Would Colorado or Washington be interested in Leighton?

Amusing comments. The best thing is, this is usually the kind of thing Holmgren doesn't do...and i'm happy he wasn't "over" loyal like he usually is. Im glad we didn't send a 2nd rounder with him to go somewhere.

Now I just hope he doesn't try and bring him back up.

Holmgren offered Turco way more than what he's getting now.

Yeah, and at the time of the offer he was expecting more. Players don't necessarily have the same expectations before free agency as they do at the end of it, especially in over saturated markets where you have to sign for cheap to find a home.

Islanders do not need another goalie. They are giving DP a chance. As we all know he is crazy injury prone but we have two really good goalies in the AHL(kos/poulin), who are probably better than Leighton. That is my guess. Here is DP's chance to be the "starter". I hope it works out.

In regards to Prucha, why would the NYI take him. We have PAP,Shremp, and Grabner already. They are all the same players, fringe NHL players.

I do understand why NYI are always mentioned to pick someone up because Garth Snow does all of his shopping on the waiver wire.

Key word is honest. Anyone who has played in the best league in the world should not have fringe next to their name.

Thanks Mike for bringing us to the Stanley Cup Finals.

They should at least have given him a chance to get his job back.
Yeah, let's let him lose us games because of respect! I'm sure the Flyers brass is thinking that!

He made the smart move for himself? There's a decent chance he's going to end up where he was 14 months ago: in the AHL.
Someone offers you three times as much money as you're making right now, but you'll have to lie to get the job. The consequences for lying are that you resume your current job but still get paid triple. Do you have to think deeply about this, y/n?

(If he had a two-way clause on his previous contract, and I'm thinking he should've, it's probably well over three times as much money. Could be ten times as much.)

I get that suspicion that Homer will put him on re-entry waivers, to give him a shot again. Randy Jones-style.

And if it wasn't for the Flyers organization who knows if he'd even have a job in the NHL? See, this works both ways. He's a fringe goalie who had a nice stretch last year so what. The Flyers don't owe him anything.

As did Nabokov. Both options were explored BEFORE Leighton was re-signed.

This was going to be his only chance at a pay day, can't wholly fault him, even though he was the only one the Flyers didn't know was hurt during the Finals.

Leighton was thinking about himself. Now the Flyers are thinking about themselves.

No way Prucha clears IMO. If not the Oilers or Islanders, I think a team like the Penguins or Blues takes a chance on him. There's absolutely no risk claiming a guy with a 600K cap hit who won't hurt you defensively. Better yet his contract is up in the summer. Zero risk there. Possible high reward.

As for Leighton, he'll clear. Buffalo won't claim him, even if he is better than Lalime. As long as Miller's here, Lalime goes nowhere this season. Plus, Leighton has a year remaining on his contract after this season. What would we do with him next year? Enroth'll be up permanently next year.

No team needs a goalie bad enough to consider Michael Leighton. The Islanders just fixed their goalie problem, the Capitals won't bother with Leighton, and even the Hurricanes will just keep Peters around. They won't bring Leighton back either. It sucks for him since he had a magical run last spring, but it's a business and the Flyers are only looking out for the best for their franchise.
