Hmmmm... McD and Valentenko are having very "rookie" seasons, I wouldn't use the word bad, weak, poor or anything like that, but "rookie" seems a fair judgement.

Glad to see the Rangers are rewarding Tomas Kundratek for his great play at both ends so far... NOT. Recalls based on merit my a$$.

Kundratek is a RD and plays the right side, in my understanding. We call him up he couldnt play, wed have Gilroy playing LD and 6 righties to 1 lefty.

how long you guys think DZ will be down for? I just hope he doesn't take it on the negative side and loses all his confidence. he has been pretty bad, but he is one of my favorite players. Just shows you the side of the game. Up one season, riding buses in the ahl the next

Happy MDZ got sent down. Not happy with the call up. I like McDonagh but i think Kundratek should have been the one called up. but oh well, im not the coach. lets see how it goes

I'm fine with the call up. I definitely think it should not be Kundratek. That would leave with a single LD (Staal) and 6 RD (Girardi, Rozsival, Sauer, Eminger, Gilroy, Kundratek). That would force Eminger and Gilroy to LD, which I'm not particularly comfortable with.

With so many young defenseman, you want them playing in positions where they are comfortable. I'm fine with Eminger at LD, but not any of the younger guys.

So does this leave us with:

Staal - Girardi
Eminger - Rozsival
McDonagh - Sauer

?

Clark did say McD would be up at some point this season

Quote:
But don’t expect this Minnesota native’s NHL career to be put on hold for much longer, as the Rangers are expecting him to be with the big club at some point this season.

“I don’t think there’s any question,” Clark said. “We lose Gabor, Prospal and Drury – well now we had to come up with a new way to win games and stay in the hunt until we get our talent back and every game is like a one-goal game. That wouldn’t have been a place for a young defenseman coming right out of college. He’s the go-to defenseman in Hartford.”

love mdz. kids got skills and offensively hes very creative from the blueline. he even picked up his physical play a bit. however, even on his best night, his defense is average and on many nights its a downright horror show. we know all this.

hes an offensive dman. a pp specialist. hes our cam fowler.

im not surprised he was sent down. hes 20. hell be back.

from what i have heard, mcd would be the last of the 3 dmen who should be called up. kundratek- but hes another righty, vtank and mcd in that order.

yet here comes ryan. not sure i get this one, unless he has some kinda deal with the team that hell get the first call up.

would have preferred vtank get a shot. hes exactly what we need. tough, nasty, stay at home type with a booming shot.

instead we get mcd.

The groin was a minor issue. He had a cortisone shot and he felt fine.

, this point is right on. A couple of time last night, MDZ was hunched over after a long shift. It was obvious he was hurting.

Did they really expect DZ to play an amazing game after not playing for two weeks? Not feeling this move.

Valentenko may have looked better in the AHL where the players aren't as quick but his footspeed is the thing holding him back. McDonagh's feet are his strength. I think its a good choice.

On a side-note, the WhalePack are really being put through the ringer with all of these call-ups. Although I guess Williams and White should help them find their way.

granted its only one game, but the only whale game ive seen in person this year was the game here in syr where they got smoked. no one played well that night. i was not impressed with mcd that night at all and while vtank didnt stand out, he took the body and made life miserable for the crunch forwards all night long.

i like that and we need some of that on broadway.

Interesting.

McDonagh-Sauer pairing looks VERY promising.

Del Zotto will be back before the season ends.

A cortisone shot in the groin? That sounds more painful then the sore groin. Lol

I agree. I think Valentenko is a keeper and I would love to see him play but if the professionals think his footspeed still needs some work then why not let him continue to develop and work on that aspect of his game.

Wow. To be honest, I did not see this coming.

In my opinion, McD MUST PLAY and Gilroy's gotta stay scratched. I'm not the guy that enjoys seeing promising prospects being up with the big boys and getting scratch (Sauer).

Del Zotto's confidence is all twisted around; he was a healthy/slightly unhealthy (flu, sore groin) scratch four times in the last six. He got back in on Sunday in Sunrise and was a minus-1 with a penalty in 15:33.

The hope is the same that the Isles had for Josh Bailey: Go down, become a force again and bring the positive vibes back to the NHL. The hiccup, though, is that the Rangers have a bit more at stake being in the middle of the playoff chase. If Matt Gilroy continues to play well, Del Zotto may not be back for a while.
Quote:
The problem for the Rangers now is that Michal Rozsival's game has slipped of late, according to John Tortorella; if McDonagh gets in the lineup over Gilroy, he may be paired with Rozsival and will need to be a steady presence right away.

Of course, McDonagh could get his break at Rozsival's expense. It's a good dilemma to have.

Looking at the game by game results--McDonagh was a -7 in his first 13 AHL games with 0 points. In the last 25 games he's been a +8 with 8 points. So turning pro was a struggle for him. He's a completely different kind of player than MDZ though. PwP duties are probably not in the cards. He'll get a chance to be the 6th guy for now--much like Sauer got at the start of this year. I think somewhat like Sauer is what expectations will be for him--for now.

I think MDZ showed he needs some games to get back on track. Playing down in Hartford will let him do just that. Let him get on track, get his confidence, then come back up. Many players have done it, it's part of the process.

As far as McD getting the call up, I don't know if he'll play or just practice with the team so the coaching staff can get a look at him and he can get a reminder of what the big club is like so he works a little extra hard when he's back in Hartford. I wonder if Vtank and Kundratek are getting their fair shake, most posts I read have Kundratek being the best overall defender in Hartford and Vtank leads the team in +/- with a +11 and is only behing McD in scoring by 2pts, 6pts rather than 8pts. I know +/- can be misleading sometimes but he's way out in front of the other defenders.

Gilroy had a great game coming off the bench.

Nah...it was meant to be Staal Sauer since 05, injuries have kept it from happening.

I'm just happy that we actually have a farm team that we can and do use to re-supply the big team. For so many years it was just wasted space in Hartford. The call ups were terrible and ill prepared for playing with the Rangers.

Not only do we have some talent down there, they are on the same page as well. Sauer has been a great addition this year. Weise doesn't look lost.

This will be good for Del Zotto. The staff obviously has certain issues they want him to work on. Now he can do it without the intense pressures of the NHL and the consequences of messing up.

Unexpected but not too surprising, a solid bunch off games in the ahl should do him some good, better than sitting two weeks and being thrown back into it, but they should have just sent him Ron instead of sitting him but this makes up for it i suppose. I'm sure he'll go over his fundamentals and get his offensive confidence back and get put back in rather than thrown right back into the lineup.
