In reality IMO a GM can never give the appearance to a player... to all his players... that being demoted is a permanent thing. They must have the feeling/hope that hard work and circumstances can allow them to return... But in all reality, Homer understands the situation and I'm sure it would take a dire circumstance to have him recall Leighton at the risks involved... Does Homer have to say that just because the reporters want him to do so? No, he doesn't.

At least that is what I got from it... and what I hope.
He was getting pressed on it because of how abjectly stupid his decision was with Randy Jones.

I believe it was established in here that any player contracted to an NHL club is loaned to the AHL when waived down... That is the terminology... So I assume an injury can allow his non-waived recall for the short term... and only if the NHL sees fit to approve it.

Can they dictate who is allowed? Wouldn't depth be the factor? What reason could they possibly give to deny one player and allow another?

I understand why they were... but that doesn't change they fact that he didn't have to answer with what they wanted him to answer... even if he felt that was the case. Being PC at times is a *****.

Well, we have goalies who wouldn't have to pass through waivers... why should the NHL make Leighton waiver-exempt when we have other options on the ledger?

Yes, given that Holmgren didn't shut the door on Emery when it was announced he was trying to come back.

I doubt it.

The pathetic thing about Homer is that when NWO posted that Emery joke, everyone thought he was serious.

This would not happen with a competent GM.

Wrong. Nobody thought it was serious. And if somebody did, it is more indicative of that person's intelligence and/or opinion of Holmgren, than Holmgren's performance itself.

Apparently Jester and myself did and I personally think that as scary as it is, we were justified to think so.

Cuz we couldn't afford him... Alberts is currently playing 15 min a night for the best team in the league. Alberts is a perfectly viable third pairing guy, and played well for us for most of that season.

I don't think we are going to bring back Emery, but to suggest it's an impossibility or odd to suggest that Holmgren would think about it... ah, yeah, don't buy that either.

Apparently the "if he were able to come back" part of Holmgren's statement was completely ignored. Not to mention that it sounds a lot like an empty phrase. It's not like Holmgren could just say to the reporter "no, Emery's career is done and he should just give up."

...he could have said "we've moved on, and have three goalies under contract."

And I have no idea where Emery's comeback is at right now... other than he was hoping to come back sometime in the late winter/early spring timeframe.

I agree. Homer was merely posturing.
