Good point.

The guy should perhaps retire. If he did, what happens to his cap hit?

Then Snow is a lucky guy... the Cap goes bye bye... but so does the remainder of his long contract I believe... unless it is insured and then only a portion would be lost. I don't believe he would retire... he'd rather be Rathje'd I bet.

I bet NYI would be upset to see his cap hit go away. That salary floor would be almost unattainable for them without that albatross contract.

Haha... I forgot about them being low on the Cap... But they would save much cash... $4.5M until 2021 AD.

A lot of bread for a hurting Organization... What are the chances are his contract is long completed in another city... any takers?

Seems like Holmgren wants him in the AHL all year

I read in another thread that the Isles are currently playing 3 different goalies in Bridgeport, so maybe they'll just bring one up, and let them get experience instead of getting Leighton.

Eventually they're gonna have to buy out Ricky D.

phillyfanatic, you're on notice. If he sends him down and then re-calls him only to have him claimed on re-entry waivers, what are you going to say?

we will hear one of these lines from him

"Holmgren is the best GM in the league, I trust his judgement!"

"its ok because we have the best record in the East!"

So glad I dropped him off my fantasy team a week ago. Oh well Bobo looks good and Boucher is a perfect backup.

They are grooming Bob to be the starter so they don't need Leighton getting delusions of grandeur. Boosh knows his place and he knows that if he keeps up a high level of play he'll see the ice in the playoffs.

Meltzer's post on HB today quotes Holmgren as saying he wants Leighton to get up to speed in the AHL and then he'll recall him when he's ready. This concerns me a great deal, but it doesn't surprise me.

It's a win-win pending reentry.

If Leighton clears and gets sent down, the Flyers can do what they like to do, which is take care of their own (in most cases), hang on to him in case of emergency and give them leverage over resigning Boucher should they desire to.

And if he gets claimed "what can you do?" "it is what it is" *wipes hands of it*

It'd also be worse than Jones because Jones already happened. There's no excuse to Jones another player.

I'm in the mentality that Homer can't be dumb enough to use him for anything other than an emergency call-up.

If he plays all year in the A, we can still have him up next year without re entry if we want

I'm not convinced an emergency call-up would even be possible. Why would the NHL grant us the exception for Leighton who would need to clear re-entry waivers under normal circumstances, when we have other emergency call-up options that would not need to clear re-entry under normal circumstances such as Riopel.

BTW... anyone else watch CSN and hear Lisa Hilary screw up the difference between waivers and re-entry waivers? She claimed that if he's claimed the team will be on the hook for half his salary...

It would be pretty awesome if people getting paid to cover the sport knew the rules of the sport.

I get SOOOOO frustrated at the errors hockey "writers"/"analysts" make.
