He'd probably be useful for nothing more than the cap hit alone.

I could see the Isles (to replace Wiz), Jackets (to replace Commodore) or maybe Oilers (to replace Whitney) potentially claiming him.

Is there a reason there's some guys being put on waivers lately or is it just coincidence?

I could see the Rangers wanting him on re-entry. We've had Eminger, Gilroy and Sauer getting regular minutes right now and we've got 5 righties in the lineup.

He wouldn't be a terrible #6 or #7 for a team needing the cap hit.

Whats the reasoning behind him hitting waivers and re-entry waivers multiple tmes this year without playing a game? Emergency D-man while someone is injured??

I still remember when this guy was pegged as the next Zdeno Chara.

Couldn't have been farther away from reality.

I would have to think someone claims him because his cap hit for a new team would be below the minimum. Maybe a team that has been looking for a cheap solution on the bottom pairing like Chicago would be interested?

They've had very similar development paths and Valabik has still got a few years to go before he reaches the age when Chara became a #1 guy

I hope they put on him on a good "pace" for re-entry waivers...

I understand why the Thrashers are doing this, but I don't understand why he made it through the first time. He would be relatively inexpensive and would be a good bottom pairing guy for a team. Decent in his own end and on the PK. Physical, clears the crease pretty well. I can't see why a team doesn't roll the dice and hope they're the ones that can pull out his potential.

If there was a player like Chara before Chara, they would have said the exact same thing about him at this age.

Chara was an NHL regular at 24, but its not like he was anything more than a #5 or 6 and on a team that wasn't complete garbage, he would've had the same thing happen to him as Valabik.

That being said, he has a long way to go to get better than he is now.

If the Oilers farm club didn't sign someone today I'd say they should inquire in getting him for their AHL club. Doesn't sound like Valabik is even that great in the AHL this year, but we lack guys like Valabik. And it would be worth the shot.

This^. It took Chara a lil while to develop into the player he is today. Not sure what his cap hit is, but if not too crazy Chiarelli should take a shot here. I recall reading somewhere that he idolizes Chara (not sure he still feels that way since Chara pounded him a few yrs back at the Garden). Maybe a 7th damn for the Bruins, perhaps Chara can try help this kid's game? He can be Stuarts replacement is Stuart asks for too much ca$h this offseason.
