Well it explains why he was playing poorly near the end, he must of had a lot of pain. His skating had slowed down too as well, he was making Gill look fluid out there. I think Gauthier and the Habs kept it quiet so they could get a D quickly otherwise they would of had to really overpay if other teams had known how bad Gorges really was.
The product of the cumulative effect that Markov's injuries have had on the D. Gorges is the Ironman no more. Hamrlik and Gorges especially can/could only compensate for Markov and others for so long. This is the third year those two have had to compensate for a lot of injuries on D and a shorthanded D.
It will be interesting to see what management does now. Why the Habs traded O'Byrne given what's happened the last couple of years I still don't understand. I'm not sure how Hamrlik is going to make it.
We will always have our best players getting hurt as long as we're an easy team to push around. Not a shock that the scenario of last season has not only replayed itself, but gotten worse. Didn't see this news coming though, though Gorges was going to be back some time. Yeah I guess we'll be making a trade but this already bad D just got worse. Playoffs looking a distant possibility. It's 2009 all over again, minus the partying.
Well, being an optimistic person, the habs will have a good position at next draft. Plus, at the trade deadline Hamrlik will have a good value, so if the Habs can get anything good in return, like a 1st rounder, considering Rivet got us Gorges + 1st.
Hopefully, Gauthier dont put his head up his ass and think they still have a chance for the cup, and trade any asset the habs have. They should be seller at the trade deadline, not a firesale, but players like Spacek and Hamrlik will have good value.
