It wouldn't have to be lower than Bartulis, but he'd have to move in a trade anyways. With his contract, he's move-able.

The only question I could see is if the "Club's Playing Season" includes the postseason... But on Page 237 of the CBA it mentions "a Club's playing season being completed during the Regular Season of a League Year"... There is no direct definition of it however in the CBA that can be found in a PDF search.
We went through the same question when we had Denis Gauthier, whose acquisition may be our worst trade of the last 20 years. It was determined that he would have to clear re-entry waivers on the way back up, which was the main reason Holmgren tried to bring in Kyle McLaren.

Speaking of waivers, does Backlund need to clear re-entry and/or is he waiver eligible when sent back down? And why?

He was 25+ when he signed his contract so he should only have a single year of waiver exemption.

But he also has played in so few NHL games over the past two seasons that he shouldn't be affected by re-entry waivers.

Backlund had to clear going down also.

I'm hazy on this emergency recall rule though, because I specifically remember the Devils getting around it when they recalled Scott Clemmensen a couple years ago when Brodeur got hurt.

Yes, he had to clear going down. But is it 100% the case that clearing going down means clearing going up?

I know that we assume that but I'd rather have a solid answer.

His AHL salary is only 105K, that means no re-entry, right?

That is my understanding based on recent conversation... so, in the event we need someone, he can be here. However, we'd then be stuck with him and/or risk losing him on the way back down (not the end of the world if we need an emergency goalie for a few games).

It's no big loss if he gets picked up.
