Philly.com mentioned a few moments ago that the Flyers still consider themselves to be in the mix here with Langenbrunner.

Until a deal is dead or finalized, anything is possible.

From Sam Carchidi.

#Flyers offered two draft picks _ believed to be third- and fifth-rounders _ for Langenbrunner. I guess Lou Lamoriello will sleep on it.

I'd be fine with a 3rd and fifth. However we would have to make room for him on the roster. Maybe homer has to clear a spot first.

Thanks. Didn't see that. I'd def be on board with it if that's all we're giving up.

Have to assume it means that Langenbrunner would replace Zherdev in the lineup permanently (sorry Vera). We might even be able to get one of those picks back for Z.

I don't really want to see Zherdev go, as I really liked the JVR-Carter-Zherdev line, which could be reunited when Z is healthy as long as Lavy will play Nodl-Richards-Giroux as the other line.

However, if the Flyers really ARE after Langenbrunner, it's to provide some of the vet leadership, scoring, feistiness they lost when Lappy went out of the lineup - with the added bonus that Jamie can play in the top 6 if necessary, top 9 for sure.

He might even be a good fit with Carter and JVR - he goes to the net, plays D, can score too:

Hartnell, Briere, Leino
Nodl, Richards, Giroux
JVR, Carter, Langenbrunner
Carcillo, Betts, Powe
Shelley

That's possible too, but I REALLY like the idea of going into the playoffs with a 4th line of Carcillo-Betts-Powe. Fast, tough line that is very hard to play against.

Maybe Holmgren will "make room" with Walker like De Niro made room on his board of directors in The Untouchables.

True. But I also like

Leino-Briere-Hartnell
JVR-Carter-Zherdev
Giroux-Richards-Langenbrunner
Shelley-Betts-Powe
Nodl???

Can obviously only guess what Lavi will do though.

How would there be cap space for Langenbrunner?

If Langenbrunner was acquired and only for picks, I'd want him on a line with Richards. The other winger could be anyone but a line with Richards and Langenbrunner would be real tough to score on and depending on who the other winger is (JVR? Giroux?) could be dangerous in the offensive zone too. Not too sure Lou deals with the Flyers though.

True, but whatever it is, you can be sure that as soon as Carter gets hot with a line, it'll be changed....

A 3rd and 5th is close enough to nothing for me not to mind, especially considering that they'll probably be late picks.

Too late. You've been put on 'ignore' by everyone on this board.

As unlikely as it is that Holmgren lands Langenbrunner -- and I fear for the cap misadventures! -- I love the idea of Richards - Langenbrunner - Giroux as a great two-way line. Play them against the opposition's top line and we're in business.

I like the people on the Devils board insisting that they could get much more than a 3rd and a 5th for Langenbrunner. I think a third and fifth is about on par for an aging vet who is not playing well this season. It may be a little low, but I doubt a first rounder or high-end prospect will be going their way. Maybe a mid-level prospect to go along with the 3rd, but I can't see a team giving a higher pick than a 3rd for him.

I laughed at some of the names they brought up

Mabe we called up Syvret in case we were trading Carle?

Doubtful. Don't really see them taking on any salary

Lou is supposed to be sleeping on this move. I think he's just hoping Homer comes back with more of an offer. While I like the team the way it is, I could see Zherdev, Carcillo or Nodl being moved because of their deals, but the Flyers would have to get a pick in return, not give one up in this instance. You don't get a salary dump and the player who is performing better. Based SOLELY on the first half of the season Zherdev and Nodl have been better than Langenbrunner. Carcillo brings certain intanglibles, like Langenbrunner (Lang. has Cups, Carcillo sells merchandise). Fear the Stache.

Ding! Ding! I know Bartulis hasn't been LYs Bart, but this fit. I thought they might be showcasing him or Bart once I heard about Langenbrunner. The Devils are desperate for a PMD (a role Syvret could fill over time ... maybe). Once that game started, and then they started talking about Langenbrunner to the Flyers, I started watching to make sure Coburn and Carle kept taking their shifts.
Carle may be the most movable of the top-6 D, but if the goal before the season was to have the best defense possible, dealing Carle for a forward doesn't work.

Why has he been a healthy scratch of late? Is is just because of the rift with Lemaire?

A flop of one of the best days ever. He wanted to come to Philly, and the Flyers were probably a Bourque away. And it wasn't chatter, it was screaming. The web wasn't what it is now, and it was all everyone was talking about.
Could not believe he didn't come to Philly. Utter disappointment.
