I've talked to Devils fans and they seemed to like a Huskins for Langenbrunner trade.

Huskins and maybe a 3rd to beat out anyone else would be A OK with me.

At that point, we can send Ferriero down. Better then that for sure.

I'd be down if somehow we got a cheap top-4 dman as well.

I was thinking before:

To SJ:
Langenbrunner
Greene/Tallinder

To NJD:
Huskins
Setoguchi
Prospect/Pick if needed

That's turrible. How's Taco Bell gun make money offa dat?

Nah, it's not that bad but I wouldn't want to lose Seto - plus it might not work cap wise.

I agree with Seto. Wouldn't work if it was Tallinder

I think he would be a great add myself. Never hurts to add scoring depth, especially gritty scoring depth. May not be the same player he once was but would still help this team.

20 goals is low end 2nd line production. And past that season with 30 goals, he's never eclipsed 25 goals in his career. He's not someone you rely on to score goals. He's also 35 so expecting him to turn it around to a level he was even at is pushing it, much less expect him to have another career year.

Either way, if you're a playoff team, you don't think of grabbing him to improve your scoring lines. You grab him to get a very good defensive forward that can make the odd contribution on the score sheet now and then. He's the perfect 3rd liner for playoff teams. He's not a 2nd liner anymore on the good teams.

In this case, we only have 1 good second liner on the team - Pavelski. Clowe scores around 20, Setoguchi hasn't last season and won't this season. Couture is this season. So Langs will be our third second liner then? Who do you rely on scoring then? Marleau and Heatley? Because everyone else on the team doesn't score more than 25.

Teams you are talking about is probably Philadelphia with their crazy depth.

I hope not since Dallas is pretty good and that makes them better.

The H-Buzz Devils guy says that Langenbrunner's wife is from Dallas, which might lend credence to the idea that he would go there.

So far it seems it's either Dallas or Philly.

Sure hope not. Why do we need ANOTHER forward? Fix the god damn defense.

Probably met her during his first years in Dallas, since he started out there.

In all honesty, I just don't think the Langenbrunner addresses any needs for the sharks at all. Temporary veteran presence? That hasn't helped us in the past, nor do I think it will help us now. So this year looks dreary, but reactionary trades that rid the team of expiring contracts, prospects, and picks do nothing but jeopardize the team's assets. Thinking that any reasonable trade half-way through the season can drastically improve our chances against disgustingly solid teams like Vancouver, Detroit, and LA is ridiculous. Excluding a steal of a trade, I just don't think DW should make a move right now.

Ride this year out. Hope for a lucky playoff run. Rebuild the defense next year. I hate seeing this team lose, and I am disappointed in the current underachievement of many of our stars. But I see this year as an experiment, whether intentional (I hope so) by DW or not. How much of this team can be carried by our top 3/4? How pertinent is a star goalie to the team's regular season success? Can the problems with the defense be fixed with a pair of slightly above average players or promising prospects (Braun), or does DW need an extremely strong D in order to solidify the blueline? A lot of these questions are being answered as the season progresses, and I can only hope that the team executives are taking the same notes that we are.

How do you call LA disgustingly solid? While they may be more well rounded (Forwards, Defense, Goalie) they are far from disgustingly solid. They lack scoring depth and their secondary scoring is terrible. At this point they do not belong in the same sentence as Detroit and Vancouver.

You're right. I think that Doughty and JJ were clouding my judgment. But I still stand by my points.
