Commodore for Rolston +

Now that Mike Commodore cleared waivers can you see him going for Brian Rolston? Trade obviously makes sense for New Jersey. Although Commodore has 2 years left on his contract after this year and Rolston has just one.

For Columbus, they'd obviously need a little more back.

Rolston - Matt Corrente for Commodore.

Btw, I don't see Columbus putting Commodore on Re-entry waivers. he will get picked up and Columbus would be on hook for half his cap hit for the next 2 years.

I actually don't get why NJ would add another defenseman with limited mobility who is signed expensively for two more years just to get rid of Rolston for the rest of the year, while giving up Corrente too?

Do you really need another Salvador, Volchenkov, White type defenseman?

I think Lou needs to be talking to Howson, that is if they aren't already.

They can waive Commodore and unlike Rolston it won't count against the cap.

Rest of the year and next. Brian is signed through next year and this team could benefit from dumping that salary.

They do it because next year they can send Commodore down to the minors without the cap counting. Where as Rolston is going to count.

I doubt NJ is going to rebuild and Rolston's cap hit hurts them.

They can also make a deal where in' Columbus agrees to claim Rolston on Re-entry waivers and then just send Commodore to New Jersey for an exchange of 7th round picks.

Then we're taking on salary in that deal. Next season we'd be responsible for Commodore's 3.75M AND Rolston's 2.5M. That's 1.5M more than Rolston alone. Even if we did bury Commodore in the minors, that's only 1.25M in cap relief, negligible at best.

Commodore is garbage, I'd rather just tough it out with Rolston the rest of the season and package him with a prospect over the summer.

With the amount of money owed to Commodore I don't know that NJ takes on part of Rolston's salary too.

Nope, Rolston will be bought out this summer. The Devils want cap space so they can make a free agency splash I think (rebuild the defense and bottom six).

Can't see the Devils ever bringing back that ****** given the history between Mike and Lou.
