Ponikarovsky and Mitchell IN Saturday; Quick to Start

http://lakingsinsider.com/2011/01/07...turn-tomorrow/

"Willie Mitchell and Alexei Ponikarovsky will both be back in the Kings’ lineup tomorrow night against Columbus, Terry Murray said after practice. Ponikarovsky will fill that first-line left-wing spot. Murray wasn’t ready to announce his fourth line but did say he wanted Kevin Westgarth to play against Columbus and Toronto."

Let us all rejoice and hope they STAY HEALTHY, because the Kings won't be making the playoffs if they are foced to take another 15 game vacation.

Happy to have Mitchell back because he has been stellar this season but more importantly it hopefully means the end of the Johnson-Doughty paring.

Has Poni played on a line with Kopitar this season and if not, how many wingers has that been for Kopitar, probably just about everyone except Westgarth?

If we do it'll be pretty scary heading into the playoffs thinking that if ONE guy goes down we're dead meat.

Would have liked to see Murray leave Sturm on the first line.

Smyth
Brown
Parse
King
Richardson
Sturm
Simmonds
Loktionov

And now

Poni

So either 9th time is the charm, or we'll trade for our 10th 1st line Left Winger of the season.

They'll move Zus up there eventually. He played there last year.

I think Lokti deserves another shot.

I feel he and Richardson were most effective.

Either that or put Smyth, Kopi, and williams back together. According to my memory, that line has not played together this year.

I thought Loktionov was starting to become really good on the 1st line before he got send down. He was sent down due to Dean wanting him to become a center and not a winger.

I'm sure he'll be back next season as our 2nd/3rd line center when Zeus is gone.

The problem is....

I don't believe that a very young #2 and #3 center combo in Lokti and Schenn is better than Stoll and Zus. You have to have those established pros in your line-up.

It took Datsyuk and Zetterberg awhile to get established. I just think it is a step backwards to rush these guys at the same time. It would make the team worse for the short-term.

Nice to see Ponikarovsky finally get a shot on the first line. Not sure how long that will last or how effective he'll be but maybe his big body can buy Kopitar and Brown some space. He was playing pretty well on the 4th line when he got hurt last time.

Sturm was so awful during the game against Chicago it was painful. I thought he played much better against Nashville so hopefully a couple more weeks playing lower minutes can help him get his confidence and his game going.

This is bizarre. How does Mitchell go from not close and not practicing to returning? Is anyone else having a what the hell moment? And what the HELL WAS HIS INJURY? This scares me because if he is rushing it and his injury becomes exacerbated, we could be in a far worse situation. Color me calmly freaked out.
