I could be wrong, as I'm not extremely familiar with some of these players, but I feel like Edmonton overpays in both.

Nope. Both are breaking out this year and getting rave reviews (Rundblad and Silfverberg).

N. O. NO. erixon along with brodie are the flames future on defense. have no need for a lazy Penner and a useless cogliano

Well David Rundblad is a 17th overall pick from 2009. He was Victor Hedman's partner at that year's WJHC and really outshone him in the tournament.

He's playing on Skelleftea's top pairing and is the go-to guy offensively on their blue line.

To compare:
Erik Karlsson at 19 only put up 10 points in 40 games

As a 20-year old, he's put up 7-19-26 in 34 games in the SEL, a ridiculous scoring pace for a defenseman, let alone one that young. He's 6'2, 195lb, and plays a solid 2-way game with great speed and puck-moving ability. A pure stud blue-liner.

Tim Erixon is a slightly lesser defenseman in a similar mold. He was picked 23rd overall in the same draft by the Flames, and is half a year younger than Rundblad (now 19). Almost an identical build to Rundblad, he has put up 3-12-15 in 30 games, and looks to develop similarly. They're both great 2-way players who use their skating and puck-moving ability to create offense.

It also helps that they've played together a long time and should have chemistry once they enter the NHL.
They're also teammates of Adam Larsson, who I could definitely see the Oilers picking this upcoming draft.

Jakob Silfverberg is a big 2-way forward who some have compared to Zherdev in his ability to dangle and create offense. He was picked 39th overall by the Sens in 2009, and has 22 points in 38 games at the age of 20 playing for Brynas. He's really come along nicely offensively this year and seems poised for a legit top-9 role very soon in the NHL.

If the Flames go into a rebuild, Erixon will be a big part of it on the back end.

We certainly don't want Penner or Cogliano....rebuild or not.....at least not at the expense of our top prospect after Backlund.

Also, the last thing we want is to have Erixon develop the way it looks like he will, and then be reminded of what we gave up 6 times a year for the next 10-15 years.

He's coming over from Sweden next year to play in North America. I am hoping he performs so well in camp that the Flames have no choice but to keep him on the main roster.....or at least a mid season call-up and stick, like Karlsson with the Sens last season.

David Rundblad was rated in our top 10 in 2010 and so far the Swedish players we have trusted with Anders Forsberg's scouting (Skelleftea's current coach) is proving worth. Many would tell you he's the best Dman in Sweden.

Silfverberg's a smart 2 way guy that some thought had the potential to break out offensively...well it appears as though he is. Him and Rundblad have now made two appearances with the Swedish National team (non-NHLers)... apparently he has shown very well.

I really can't see us dealing any of the Swedish prospects....if it wasn't for Andre Petersson's back problems he'd be right up there as well. I expect we'll be keeping the guys we used Anders Forsberg for...I've read Hakan Andersson saying Anders may be a better talent evaluator then he is.

I mean your talking to the 5th worst team in the NHL and trying to take take one or two of their top 4 skating prospects...At this point both could be on the roster next year as players like Ruutu and Kovalev are gone.

Ottawa says no thanks unless we are getting one of Hall, MPS, or Eberle.

As a Sens manager you know in 2009 you had Rundblad rated higher than MPS with the help of one of the best scouts in Sweden. But of course there's no breaking up Hall, Eberle and MPS unless you overpay for MPS.

This guy sounds brilliant. That being said, you're the same team that picked Jared Cowen ahead of either of these guys.

And I'd gibe you a kick between the legs.

In two or three years, these teams will be good trading parnters, the extra forwards from Edmonton for the extra d-men from Ottawa. For now, neither wants to move their prospects. Nothing will happen with any of these players.

Sens are likely rebuilding so I don't see them moving Rundblad and Silfverberg.

For the sake of discussion though, Murray loves Penner, so I think Penner is the guy Murray would ask for in exchange of Rundblad or Silfverberg.

no chance this happens. i'm not the biggest hemsky fan because we dont need another injury prone player on our team, but forgetting value, it doesnt make sense for us to trade one, let alone two of our best prospects when all season long its become apparent that our current team is contingent on older players.

He's going to be 6'5 250 some day..19 year olds at 6'5 235 don't usually play in the WJC let alone used as the main defensive match up guy.

Your the same team that held him around the same regard as Victor Hedman.

Kevin Prendergast (your ex-Asst GM and current HC Head Scout)
“Was probably the best defenceman at the Memorial Cup last year as an underage player. He's a can't-miss player. Very similar to Hedman. Not as good a skater as Hedman is but he's physical, takes care of business in his own end. The obviously negative thing is he's missed almost a whole season. It's a knee problem - those situations take about a year to come back from but someone's going to obviously take him (early in the draft)."
