Maybe Tanguay will be the Keith Tkachuk of the Flames.
Get traded at the deadline, re-sign on the offseason.
I guess that's what Jokinen did.
I was thinking the same thing. He would be an excellent fit with the Pens. Was kind of upset the Flames signed him over the summer, cause I was really hoping the Pens would grab him. Good deal for the Flames though, and I like him there, he is a good fit. But at the Trade Deadline, I would offer a decent prospect and a pick, maybe a roster player. Not sure if the Pens and Flames make good trading partners though. Don't know if the Flames need anymore defensemen prospects, but the Penguins have a decent amount. But I would probably propose something along the lines of Tyler Kennedy, Casey Pierro-Zabotel and a 4th for Tanguay and a later pick.
I'd guess re-signing is more likely based on the way he's talked about playing in Calgary. There were rumors as early as about a year ago that he really wanted to go back, and he presumably negotiated the NTC for a reason. About 2-3 million, 2 years? Can't really hurt to have him around even if they go into a rebuild, he has a great understanding of the game and if he can share any of that with whatever young players come in he'll be worth having on the roster.
If he did waive, I agree with everyone who said 2nd and a middling prospect. He costs nothing, so there shouldn't be any need to take a salary back.
He's more than proved this year (and throughout his career) that last year was nothing more than a blip, I would think.
20ish goal and 60ish point rental players that carry a cap hit of $380k at the deadline, don't come around very often.
Who knows though, he does have that NTC and might not even be willing to waive it.
Probably doesn't matter a huge amount but I still can't see much more than an average prospect being thrown in with the 2nd, the fact that he controls his destination could mean that his value takes a hit.
