He and his wife just had their first kid.....and I'm having vague recollections that it was a somewhat difficult pregnancy. Might be as simple as not wanting to uproot his family.

That's exactly what it is. Patrik will retire at the end of this contract and stay on in the Devils organization, IMO.

Immediately their team Cup total is doubled. Elias makes a lot of money, yes, but the intangibles he brings to the table is great.

Elias-Kopitar-Brown would be a hell of a 1st line.

That's why a genius GM like Lombardi would be interested.
No need to prove to me why he would be a good pick up; I already know that he is. I'm trying to figure out why his value is of a 5th round pick according to another poster -- who holds age and money in such high regards.

I would like to see him retire as a NJD to be honest.

Ah, sorry. Didn't detect the sarcasm there, no offense, I was just trying to prove a point.

Thank god the he didn't waive his NMC, kings would have another overpaid former superstar past his prime for 6 mil+.

Yes, you are very very wrong.

This.

Elias would help us for the short term, but I don't think it would be good long term. I don't see the Kings winning it all this season with Elias.

We don't need another Smyth/Zeus situation; even though Smyth is actually scoring a ton of points this year.

The Kings need to go for someone young.

I doubt Lou approaches Elias to waive the NTC. Elias is a guy who wins. He's a guy you want around during a semi-rebuild. He's a guy who even in decline can contribute to a hockey team. Unless Lou is blown away, I don't see him asking Elias to waive his NTC. And I think there's no chance Elias would agree to waive it, even if Lou did ask.

please LA, dont ruin the team you have for rentals. I know all contenders do add pieces at deadline, but I would just be sad to see LA parting with their young players and prospects. I love what they have done over the last 5 years, and if I had a say, I would stick with the team that i have and maybe add pieces for 3rd-7th round picks as rentals for the playoffs.

I refuse to believe it's true. Considering his cap hit and LA's pending contracts there's no way I think this could work.

2) Might as well go for the Cup now, you're not keeping Doughty and JJ at those nice little cap hits you have right now. One will probably go
JJ just signed for 7 years, and you can be sure Doughty will re-sign soon. The Kings aren't ready for the cup yet. They still need Kopi, Doughty, JJ to get more experience and Brayden Schenn to center the second line.

No need to speculate, Elias will retire as a Devil.

It's a Devils rumor. Which immediately makes it false. Maybe LA wants him, but I will guarantee Lou never asked and Patty never said No.

I have been a Devils fan for almost 30 years and not one rumored deal actually happened since Lou took over.

anyway, for those of us who missed After 40 Minutes and are NOT really "tech savvy" could someone list other rumors or speculation or even better, post a link to the segment?
Thanks in advance!
