Tyson Sexsmith

What is happening with this kid? Anyone know? I have not heard much about him recently and tried to find information on him unsuccessfully. I had high hopes for him and he did so great in the WHL...now he is sucking in the ECHL. Is he no longer considered an NHL prospect, or does he still have a shot?

he's hurt right now. and I think at least in part the ECHL move was to get him playing time he wasn't getting sitting behind Stalock at the AHL level.

Still, I don't hold out high hopes for him. I watched him a lot when he was in the WHL and he was a tremendous product of the Giants' system of play.

What is the injury? How long is he out for?

1) I'm not sure

2) I don't remember how long he's been out, but IIRC he's close to returning.

He broke his hand in a fight...it's probably on Youtube so you can get a "how long" from that.

Broke hand first week of November.

Stockton newspaper story a couple of days ago indicated he was "really close" to returning to ice.

So, that's about 8 weeks and counting.

Did anyone think this kid was a legit NHL prospect to begin with? He put up average goalie numbers on a loaded Vancouver team. Honestly, I never understood the interest in this player that some people shared.

Its very doubtful that he'll make it in the NHL. Sateri and Stalock look like they will be the future behind the net for the Sharks. Especially Sateri. We can almost expect one or the other to be a viable option after Niittymaki's contract year.

Still a kick ass name. You've got a blacksmith that works with iron, a goldsmith works with gold, silversmith with silver. You can figure out what craft a Sexsmith works.

I'm pretty sure it's not goaltending.

Actually his numbers in the WHL were well above average...they were some of the best in the league and I believe he set the record for SO's in the WHL.

On a side note, I looked at Sateri's numbers recently and they were pretty aweful as well...hope our long golden line of goalies is not turning into poo poo...

I should have been more specific, but how did his save % rank among goalies?

Here is the listing for Stockton. Someone who has watched mentioned that even when healthy Pitton is ahead of Sexsmith and Pitton is not a golden prospect for Edmonton.

Pitton isn't Edmonton property...

Edit: Sorry, wrong Pitton... makes sense you'd be talking about a goalie and not a forward.

It's easy to get in trouble when you have to go that far down the depth chart . . .
