Yeah that was odd 9 games might have been a good idea but maybe he wants that flexabilty for next year.As for sutton i dont think he was worth the money really he had that big hit against pittsburg and after that he just stopped playing his mobilty wasnt that good and other than the occasional big hit and blocked shot something that carks brings for 700k he wasnt anything special.

You bring Lehner up because at pre-season they felt he was NHL ready, and from an NHL standpoint...he's a better goaltender then Brust or Brodeur. You can see this in his technique, athleticism and size...from a scouting standpoint I thought he looked great at the WJC...made all the saves you want to see him make and let a couple in your probably won't see him allow for years.
There is not a moment I have doubted his talent, he is a big body moves incredibly well has awesome technique. But its his mental game that worries me..... Soft goals media explosions is this the type of 19 year old you want to put in the most important position on a team thats floundering? What if he gets lit up and losses his confidence? How does that help his development what so ever? Why not play him where as a 19 year old he can develop against very good AHL shooters win games get playoff experience etc. This organization has been great at developing players because they take there time it clearly works better this way. Look at Jimmy Howard, that is how you develop a goaltender that was a second round pick.

So he goes and pays a worse player more money instead, and of course loses the trade as well.

Brilliant.

Yeah Vermette sure would have a tough time beating out Regin, Kovalev, Foligno & Michalek for a roster spot.

Good thing we don't have him anymore. Who needs a fast forward that has a good shot, wins faceoffs, kills penalties and when used properly can be a 65 point player.

Yep and we had all sorts of cap room to sign him too ,no goaltender, defensive issues, etc but signing vermette would have saved us from everything that was going wrong with the team at the time

Vermette is playing with Nash though, I'm not sure he'd be having a good year here.

There are a lot of people who think that murray,s is to blame for this mess, when its quite obvious that is not the case when you look at all the varibles that went into his trades and signings.Short term ufa,s to buy time to draft and develop younger cheaper tallent to replace these older players .Just look at detroit they do it all the time but they have a better core to do it with thats all

There are so many things that led up to all this, blamming one person is just un-educated and ignorant.

Why not? He had a 50 +year here and had 20 goals pretty well every year here;he was usally 4th in scoring behind the big three even though he mostly played left wing on the 3rd line with extremely limited PP time,.

If he was here that would likely continue.

In Columbus he started out playing on the second line with Umburger. He also started out this year on the second line; he is only on the first line becuase Brassard has struggled. So sometimes he has played with Nash, sometimes not but is valued for this defensive play and face off skils as well as scoring.

Nobody is aguring that vermette wasnt a great player because he was ,the hard decsion to move him one iam sure was given a lot of thought at the time by management they knew he was a good player and fan favorite but sometimes you have to make sacrifices to make the team better in the long run
