I think it's stupid to trade for players when they are in their primes(you have to give too much).. Try trade them when they are not in their prime(before prime).

The Habs don't even have what it takes to trade for Vinny. Keep dreaming.

The Habs have what it takes, the difference between most teams is that we have a Good GM who wouldnt trade the farm for a player. If Gainey really wanted to get Lecav he could easily trade for him with a lot of the Habs present and future stars, But that would just be plain stupid

Maybe it's the time to make a pitch for Vinny?
Khabibulin will be first to go.. not lecavalier.

I hope this never happens. UFA under 30 years old would be totally stupid. What would be the use to develop a player when you lose him when he starts being in his prime?

But here within this very shrine of habs knowledge ?

Sure we got a few lunatics who would trade Theo and all of our prospects for Crosby, but generally we're very down to earth knowledgeable hockey fan.

jesus. chelios? lecavalier? where will it end?

lecavalier turned 25 last march. he will be 28 in 3 years. in 3 years the UFA age may reportedly drop to 28. why spend a moon if we can have him for free in 3 years (cap permitting)? everyone knows he grew up a habs fan. we are doing ok as it is. vinny won t necessarily put us at the top of the mountain.

Criminy... first, the Lightning might have to move some people, but the last people who will be moved are either of Lecavalier or Richards. They'll send others away first. Those two are the core.

Second, players may hail from an area or have grown up fans of a certain team, but that ought not to be taken as evidence that a player is bound to return home as soon as it's a function of free will. Vancouver fans have sworn Burnaby Joe Sakic would sign there one day. They said the same about Paul Kariya, but neither ever quite worked out, did it? They say the same about the Niedermayers at present, as though it's a done deal. We'll see.

Players grow comfortable with new surroudings, get better offers, like their Cup chances in a given location, all the time. It's very common. Could be a simple case of liking Florida weather after a while for Lecavalier. Who knows, really. Lecavalier as eventual Hab is far from a fait accompli at this point.

Heck, half of Canada grew up a Habs fan. Doesn't mean every player's fervent wish is to get to Montreal as quickly as possible. That sounds like a Leaf fan's narcissism.

Favorite sons don't always come home when free agency kicks in, even those from Quebec... or we'd still be talking about the Raymond Bourque, Martin Brodeur, Luc Robitaille and/or Mario Lemieux years that never were in Montreal.

Vinny turned 25 in April. Richards turned 25 in May. The Habs will have their chance to make fantastic offers to them when each become whatever the applicable UFA age is. Until then, you can continue to dream, it's still free!

I'm tired of trolls saying that we don't have what it takes to acquire x, y players.

We have a young good core of players...

What if we offer Kostitsyn, Ryder, Ribeiro (and Markov),1st round pick for Vinny? This kind of package would interest any team and I'm sure the Tampa gm's would reconsider this offer a lot.

I'm not saying we should make a similar offer but I'm just saying that we've what it takes to make interesiting offers.

We should wait till' is a UFA and that's why I hope, the UFA age will drop down to 28, next year.Vinny is so special...he's big, skilled and he likes MTL so he's gonna be even more motivated. When, he's gonna work on his consistency, he'll be damn scary, that's for sure.
