Wisniewski's next contract

Having a bit of an argument with a friend, can anyone offer some insight?

He's going to demand way too much, he will either get it pretty quick on July 1st from a desperate team, or he will be signed later on for not even close to he is asking... But still more than he should be making. He thinks he is a #1 or #2 defenseman but honestly he is the perfect #4 or 5 guy

Less than what Hamrlik got a few years ago (5M).

Close to what Spacek got 2 years ago (3.7 or something like that).

TBH i think around 4.5 for 6 years taking him through his prime would be fair, I'd be willing to give 4.75 as well

4.75 would be an overpayment.
The guy is a mid-pairing D on pretty much every team in the league, except on those that are too thin or too heavy on D.

He is currently on a pace for over 50 points. If he maintains that, no way is he going to sign for anything under 4 million. I don't think he is worth that much, but if the Habs are going to lose Markov, we need a PP capable d-man. Neither Weber or Subban are quite there yet. I would want to keep Wish, but not with more than 4 million cap hit.

6 years @ $25M would be fair depending on how the rest of this season plays out. He may get more than that, but won't be worth it.

Between 3.75-4 M per year for about 4 years would be fair to both sides imo, he might get more on the open market but I don't think Gauthier will offer more than that. I know people say he is "slight overated" and isn't a top pairing D-man, but I think he would be highly effective with the Habs system, we real don't have a 1st pairing, 2nd pairing, 3rd pairing but have three 2nd pairing D-men (i hope that make sense).

At this pace, 4.5 to 5 would not be unreasonable. But the remainder of this season + playoffs (?) will obviously be a huge factor for his new contract.

I think you'll have to wait how he is doing over the next months before throwing a number, because if he is indeed interesting offensively, i was absolutely not impressed by his defensive play.

He's likely to be overpaid because he's putting solid numbers this year. But a 27 y.o offensive defenseman with only one season over 30 pts, i dont think he should get more than 4M.

And with both Subban and Weber ready to play, i hope that we wont overpay him.

I have a gut feeling 4 million for 5-6 years. God help the team who signs him if he doesn't remain productive but damn will they be lucky if he does.

It isn't like Hammer where he can at least be relied on defensively, it's more of a Spacek situation. If he doesn't produce offensively then he's pretty much a waste of cap space.

Right now obviously myself and the other habs fans love the guy LOL

If he keeps up his current pace for points I expect a contract similar to what Streit signed with the NYI for..
