If having McCabe is essentially the same thing as a Redden or Roszival then why not get him since he possesses something we need?? McCabe has a huge shot and can man a PP point and will instantly turn Del Zotto's game around. DZ will be racking up assists with McCabe firing them at the point.

McCabe also is a pretty physical nasty dman...yea he takes bad penalties sometimes and isn't great defensively but how long have Rangers fans been preaching for a tough dman who will take the rough penalty to knock somebody jabbing away on their backside?? McCabe will get in their face, and definitely more then Redden and Rozy...

Secondly, McCabe at his worst is Redden level defensively...Rozy is a tad better then him...The glaring difference here is McCabe has experience and is comfortable on the PP point...Rozy out there is nervous and will just slap at it anywhere rather than calm it down, much like Staal and Girardi also... McCabe instantly backs the pressure off because of his **** too, gives everybody a little more room.

IMO McCabe is exactly the type of dman we need...I wish there was a younger more defensively sound dman but not every player is going to have every tool. This guy possesses some skills that we have zero of and he seems to be a perfect fit IMO...

Tyutin - if he is being shopped
McCabe

3rd tier:
Rivet

White - if Carolina does not want to pay him
Montador

I believe that the tiers represent what pairing they would most likely play on.
Ian White is far more than a third pairing defenseman he is incredibly under rated

Any thread that starts with the word Eklund, I don't read. But today I'll make an exception. He can never call a deal and now after a deal is done that he also missed, he wants to call the next one he won't call either.

I'm laughing at this okay. My needs are simple.

Pitkanen would be my first choice because they need a shot on the powerplay and some offense, but I would have him next in line afterwards.

Awesome defensive defenseman.

that will never happen! because Toronto already traded their #2 for Kessel! although technically you never did say what year...

I think Beauchemin would be the ideal target from Toronto

Awesome defensive defenseman.

Probably a pipe dream. Carolina is fighting for a playoff spot, I dont see why they would part with Pitkanen or Gleeson ... especially to us, 1 of the teams they are trying to catch. Off course between now and trade deadline something could go horribly wrong in Carolina and they could be sellers. I dont see it though, had them as a playoff team at the start of the season (I believe, 7 or 8 seed if I recall correctly).

Word. I'd love Ian White. This board would fall in love with him in a week.

The Rangers most of the time just trade with teams that we have traded with before.. ( Coyotes, Flames and the Maple Leafs). I do not see them trading with another team before the deadline.

I guess I'm in the minority that would actually like McCabe.

Not every defenseman needs to be a shutdown defenseman (especially with the luxury of Girardi-Staal) and he'd help our PP tremendously.

Agreed, I'd love to gym Ian White in here. Dude has a bomb of a shot to help out our powerplay, and he is solid enough defensively. I don't think Carolina would be trading away pieces yet though.

I would love to have Tyutin back and I don't think he would be too expensive to get. Only problem with Tyutin is that extension we gave him before we traded him. I don't know how much longer he has on it but I still wouldn't mind having him. He'd do great alongside Sauer.

Aside from that I believe we don't need a powerplay quarterback via trade. We need a gritty and defensively sound defensemen to play alongside Sauer. After we get that we send McDonough back to Hartford, bring MDZ back, and make Gilroy our 7th defender again.

I think Christensen and Gilroy are next in line to get traded probably for some rental veteran(s) to help out in the playoffs. Christensen and Gilroy don't strike me as playoff heroes, and there are no shootouts in the playoffs. Weise and Dupont might also be moved as well as mid and later round picks.

Maybe Cory Sarich.

I do not understand why everyone thinks that Matt Gilroy is not capable of being a defensemen that can generate some offense. Lets be real here last year he was sent to Hartford for quite some time, and when he did play had to do it with our great friend Wade Redden. This guy won the Hobey Baker Award for a reason, it is way too soon to call quits on him, not to mention that we would not get anything that big for gilroy because yes, he has not played to full potential. In my opinion he has improved a lot this year and can generate some offense given the opportunity. Not to mention that he has vastly improved on the defensive side of his game . I can also guarantee that MDZ trade stock is a lot higher then Gilroy s and a possible deal involving MDZ can and would bring a decent amount of talent back to the rangers. Remember Sather a couple of years back was a handshake away from getting stamkos with MDZ being the central part of the deal on the Rangers side of things

Imo Sather will hold his horses till:
1) trade deadline, where is clear who is selling/buying
2) is clear that current squad is able to step up and somehow fill in gap after Rozsival. And no, Staal and Girardi can't play 30 mins/game.
Then he just might do nothing ;]

NO ON MCCABE.

Kaberle to be the second coming of Zubov?? I'd like it if it were possible.
I live in FL and watch the Panthers all the time. Hell, I'll be at the game tonight lol.

given they need offense and help on the PP I would love Pitkanen but I think the Canes will make a run in the second half...........McCabe would be just fine as a rental for the PP........Kaberle would work too and Burke and Sather love each other

Kinda been hoping for him to come to NY for a few seasons now. But...heard some negative stuff about him from the Nucks fans last year. This year I haven't heard that so much. Some things I really like about him.

Like that he has snarl.
Like that he defends his teammates and himself.
Like that when he does drop the mitts he fights to win. Not to "not look bad"
Like that he adds some offense.
Like that he has as many points as Rozsival so far but has also thrown 20+ more hits, and has 20+ more blocked shots.

Seems like Eminger, but with a little more offense to his game.

But...whats the deal with him in Vancouver? Why is he always rumored on the trade block? He's still under 30. He's posted up a couple of 40 point seasons. He's a plus 16 on the year right now.

I kinda like the idea of Bieska. Would really like to know the negatives. Late games are out of the picture for me as I have to work too early these days, so I only see highlights. 2 of which were him knocking the silly out of people this season.

I did get to hear a great story about him once. Told to me second hand by someone who was in the know. When Buke was part of the Canucks org they all went out one night. Maybe Bieska's rook season. Anyway, Fedor Fedorov was also on the team at the time. He apparently thought he was Gods gift to women, and pretty high on his horse. Burke too. One night Fedorov crossed the line again, and Bieska and he got into a verbal argument where Feds said he was going to whoop his ass outside. Apparently they did go outside, and Bieska one-punched him out cold.

...So it was second hand info, but that's how it was told to me.

How is his shot? Can he play the PP? What is his value right now? How does Washington's 2nd rounder sound?
