Don't really care how many we get into the ASG. Less people that make it the more players that get rest. More people that make it, the more people on our team that get to have the ASG added to their resume. Win-win as far as I'm concerned.
I definitely think Briere deserved to be our one representative a hell of a lot more then anyone else though.
What surprises me is that there are no Sabres and Islanders. So much for full league representation. Cause, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the rookies play in the actual all star game.
Oh contraire...apparently ALL teams will be REPRESENTED through the Allstar weekend (as clarified by Ken Danico last night on Versus)...meaning if you don't make the actual game, your rookies will participate on Satuday (or whatever day it is)
Nicklas Lidstrom will be the graybeard in Raleigh even if he doesn't look a day over 30. Lidstrom, 40, is making his 11th All-Star Game appearance. He was selected to play in Montreal two years ago, but couldn't.
He and Datsyuk chose not to come and got suspended for it.
I would bet that the Flyers who were being considered talked it over and decided that Giroux should be their representative. Timonen wants rest, Richards doesn’t seem like he cares (not in a bad way), Carter probably feels the same, Pronger needs to recover, and Briere’s been there (they all have). They don’t really strike me as a group of guys who really give a **** about being in the all-star game, and they probably figure that they’d want a young guy who hasn’t been there (Giroux) to get a shot.
All that being said, it’s ridiculous – for reasons that have been pointed out – that the Flyers have only 1 representative.
