these line juggling makes me smile now.

Maybe TM's making every player to have chemistry with each other rather than just one line..
Or maybe it is TM's very very passive way of telling DL that he has pretty okay individual pieces but they just don't fit well together...

Either way, He is a genius
...
..
.
not.

There's nothing new but what's been forgotten,

Meet the new First line, same as the old First line.

Re: new Line 2 combo:

Whats Brown supposed to do while Handzus struggles to catch up to the offensive pla? Whats Clifford supposed to do? Thats easy, Protect Brown!

Re: new Line 3 combo:

Maybe, Maybe not.

Im getting tired of anything with Westgarth in it.

Pretty sure the "third line" will be our second line. I hope so, at least.

I miss:
Sturm - Kopitar - Brown
Smyth - Stoll - Williams
Clifford - Handzus - Simmonds
Ponikarovsky - Lewis - Richardson

Those lines clicked pretty well.

Maybe Terry should just let Kopitar, Handzus, Stoll, and Lewis pick there wingers ala the all star game.

Kopitar- I'll take Bownie
Handzus - I'll take Simmer
Stoll - I'll take Willie
Lewis - I'll take Smitty
AK - Aah Lewie I wanted Smitty - o.k. Sturmie then.
Zeus - Me take young kid
Stoll - I guess Ritchie
Lewis - Poni your wth us.

I like the second line. That line is gonna bang some bodies. I know everyone hates it because Clifford is there.. And if you don't put it top cheese every game the things you do go un-noticed here, but thats a solid line.

But if I had it my way:

Smyth-Kopitar-Williams
Richardson-Stoll-Brown
Sturm-Handzus-Simmonds
Ponikarovsky-Lewis-Clifford (Don't think it matters what wing KC plays.. He just eats children no matter where he's at.)

Handzus has really looked a step slower this year...it might be time to part ways...Even if Schenn isn't ready, it's probably time to sign a UFA center to go after Kopitar and before Stoll and Lewis.

If Schenn isn't ready, the Kings don't have many options to consider in free agency if they let Handzus walk. I'd say the only upgrades to Handzus as a true legit #2 C would be Brad Richards (which would mean Schenn won't be the #2 C for a very long time as Richards will command a multi-year deal), or Tim Connolly. Then you have Brendan Morrison or Vaclav Prospal who aren't much better than Handzus. If the Kings want a #2 C, they're going to have to trade for one.

Thank god. I am not naturaly one of the Murray skeptics but his use of the first line has had my head spinning.

You think Murray has an app on his iPhone that picks the lines?

What about Arnott, Fleishman (C/LW), Laich, LaRose, or Kopecky?

Arnott is done, and the others you named are primarily wingers. Besides Laich and Fleischmann, Kopecky or LaRose are better suited in a third line role. But it does fall in line with the Lombardi type acquisitions in trying to pass them off as 2nd line talent. Which is akin to the Kings acquiring Erik Rasmussen or Trent Klatt and telling us they're top six forwards.

What's Derek Armstrong up to these days? I'm sure he can still center the Kings' 2nd line.

Hhahaahahahahahhaha. Seriously...so true it hurts dude.

You really think Schenn is going to be that much better in 9 months...He could barely play on the 4th line and now we are ready to annoint him the #2 center before 2011 is over?

Not even close, Schenn has got to clean up some parts of his game. One big one being DRAWS. He was getting owned in the WJC some times.
He has a ton of talent and drive. But a few seasons in the AHL would do him wonders I think.

You'd have to re-sign Ziggy Palffy (or his equivalent) to make him look any good. Of course Ziggy could have made me look good at center, and I cant play forward worth a damn.

????????

We has by far our 2nd best center......... the only reason for not putting up huge points were to hit posts or crossbars.
He was brilliant with Clifford and Lewis despite he played just 6 minutes per game and that says a lot.

I'm not sure Schenn will be quite ready. I think a full season in Manchester with him leading the team might serve him best to be prepared to assume a significant role with the Kings whenever he's ready. He shouldn't be restrained to minimal ice time on the fourth line with the likes of Westgarth playing against other fourth liners.

I don't know anything about the availability of the following players I am about to name, but I think they could be the best options worth consideration for the 2nd line C position that may not cost too much...
  • Stephen Weiss (C) FLA: signed until 2013 with a cap of $3.1M. 39 GP, 13 G, 26 PTS, 54.1 FO%
  • R.J. Umberger (C/LW) CBJ: signed until 2012 with a cap of $3.75M. 42 GP, 14G, 29 PTS, 50.0 FO%
  • Antoine Vermette (C/W) CBJ: signed until 2015 with a cap of $3.75M. 42 GP, 9G, 23 PTS, 56.9 FO%

To compare, Stoll is signed until 2012 with a cap of $3.6M. 42 GP, 11 G, 27 PTS, 59.2 FO%

While Stoll's numbers are within the range of production of the players I have listed above, I don't think he has the offensive skills that those players possess. Weiss has had back-to-back 60+ point seasons with Florida.

Vermette is coming off a career year with 27 goals and 65 points and is highly skilled with the puck.

Umberger is similar in style to Hartnell, making his home in front of the net and going into the hard areas to make plays. He also possesses a quality shot and a career best 55 points.

A player like Umberger or Vermette would also give the Kings greater flexibility as they are very capable wingers who can shift to LW should Schenn be ready to step up as the 2nd line C.

If I'm Lombardi, I dangle Stoll with other carrots (i.e. Richardson, Drewiske, Hickey, Martinez, Moller, 2nd-3rd round picks) and see if Florida or Columbus bites. Initiate some discussion and target one of the three names above.
