Rumor: McCarty Likely Candidate for Buyout

Ansar Kahn of MLive.com is reporting that the 3 most likely buyouts in Detroit are Derian Hatcher, Ray Whitney and Darren McCarty.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I would give to see Darren McCarty in an Ottawa Senators' uniform.

The Sens should have signed Jason Wiemer. He would have fit in great there....

I'm pretty sure he can, but I'm just assuming he hasn't lost his form this past year.

He would be great with the Sens, but what line could he play on? Assuming Havlat moves to LW, I guess he'd have to be on the third line, which would be fine with me. Vermette-Fisher-McCarty sounds pretty good to me.

Hatcher and McCarty would be sweet on Long Island. Two rugged customers, both of whom are familiar with winning, the latter a trait sorely missing on the current NYI roster.

But why would they want to go to Long Island?

If they're ufas with plenty of other offers, then it'd be a longshot.

maybe Peca the team captain, helps sell them on the idea

when they aquired Hamrlik, wasn't it Chara(a good friend),who called him up after the trade and sold him on the idea?

McCarty's the type of player that I'd like to see Montreal pursue. He's got the toughness that the Habs desperately need.

Off topic but does anyone think that Hamrlik might be a good fit in Ottawa? Though Ottawa is more in need of a right-shooting d-man, Hamrlik might round out the Top 4 quite nicely. Also it would allow a possible Chara-Redden pairing which I'd like to see as the top pairing, playing 26-30 minutes a game.

I don't see it happening with Mac strictly because of the Illitch's commitment and love of him.
Hatcher??? buh bye. As long as the Stars don't sign him again.

someone posted Muckler's comments, about how the Sens won't have extra $ to spend on ufas, that they'll be trying to hold onto their own players.

I expect the Hawks who tried trading for him in 2003-04,will make a serious run at Hamrlik.
