Rangers Prospect Poll: #10

Carl Hagelin took the #9 spot. He looks like he might be the next Ranger rookie forward to join the team at some point during the 2011-2012 season.

This will be the final round for "Top Prospects" and with #11 we'll begin voting on the second-tier.

The vote to add a new name to the vote was almost unanimous for Tomas Kundratek:

1. D Tomas Kundratek: 22
2. D Mikhail Pashnin: 2

Don't forget to write-in who should be added in the next round.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. C Derek Stepan
2. LW Chris Kreider
3. RW Mats Zuccarrello-Aasen
4. D Michael Sauer
5. D Dylan McIlrath
6. D Ryan McDonagh
7. LW Evgeny Grachev
8. RW Christian Thomas
9. LW Carl Hagelin

Carl Hagelin
Left Wing
Born Aug 23 1988 -- Sodertalje, Sweden
Height 6.00 -- Weight 187 -- Shoots L

pretty easy choice, Werek for me. Might be another Dubinsky-type player, you can never have enough of those.

Add Weise

Voted for Werek even though I think all the remaining prospects on the list should be classified as top prospects. It's really not fair to make someone like Bourque or Horak or Valentenko a second-tier, but we just don't have enough spots for everyone.

Add Dale Weise. The guy was scoring almost a point per game in the AHL as a defense-first player. The Rangers are supposedly high on him.

He's a 4th liner at a minimum, and has a good shot at becoming a good 3rd liner.

Tank, he might be on the team by playoff time.

Add Pashin already!

Weise is already on the Rangers, and he's not even up there on the voting list, and you didn't even want to add him this round. Not saying that playing for the Rangers is end-all, be-all, but just because Tank is close to making it is not proof that he should be ahead of other prospects.

I'll take Weise over him, probably Horak too. Then Tanker.

In case you haven't noticed Dale Weise isn't the greatest hockey player. Stop falling in love with these scrubs that get called up to fill a bottom line roll. With our depth with young blueliners Weise shoudln't even be considered at this point. He is what he is a 4th liner. And without the recent spew of injuries Weise is still on the Whale.

And he's barely on the Rangers, his fighting majors have more PIMS than his icetime. Not a good sign with this coach.

Well, if you're going to bring up Weise's limited upside, it's not as if Valentenko has that much. Realistically, he will become a physical third pairing guy who is a little undersized.

He's a 22-year-old rookie. The guy has shown a good ability to score at the AHL level and in the juniors before then.

At each level, he started slowly as a role player and proceeded to improve.

He has a decent shot, he's big and he is a decent skater for his size. He definitely has 3rd line potential.

Werek, add Andrew Yogan.

Glad to see Hagelin cracking the top ten. I've been singing his praises for 3 years now! I think he's going to be a very good pro.

Not to take away from Hagelin, who is a nice player, but I think it's crazy that Werek isn't in the top 9. Whatever, same thing that happened with Sauer. You'll all see in the future

How good do you think Werek will be? Most people are thinking third line, what do you think? Can he be a solid second liner? Can he be a Dubinsky type who is a borderline first-liner?

I think Werek will likely find himself as a second/third line tweener. Someone who plays hard, makes the proper decisions and busts his ass for us.

I'm okay with that. And I think that is a highly realistic that he reaches that status. HF has him ranked a 7.0C but I would go with 7.0B. Then again, this isn't taking into consideration his recent injuries.

Precisely. No, Werek is not going to be a borderline first-liner (then again, neither is Hagelin). Werek is going to be a second/third line tweener, as nyr2k2 said. But, like a Callahan, he's going to be one of the best in his role. I'm sure some people won't like the comparison, but Werek reminds me a lot of Drury, and I ****ing love that. He's a really, really smart player who makes the right decisions and the right plays time after time. Excellent positioning, terrific stick on defense. Good around the net in the other team's zone.

It's not surprising he gets overlooked. The same thing happened with Sauer, even though Sauer is hardly the surprise some posters try to make him out to be. Sauer's been playing consistently flawless hockey for a while now. He also got overlooked in these polls every time. Meanwhile, he's playing defense like a 10 year vet in the NHL 3 months into his career.

If Werek has a Drury-like career, I will be very happy. In fact, if he becomes another Callahan, I would still feel really lucky.

Having a third line of Boyle - Werek - Prust would give us one of the top third lines in the game. And if it is Boyle-Werek-Callahan, it would likely be the best third line in the game... assuming, of course, that Werek becomes another Callahan.
